Job Summary

The Career Ambassador Graduate Assistant will assist their direct supervisor and the Student Relations Team with achieving the mission, vision, and goals of Career Services. The CAGA will be responsible for the duties listed below in addition to other duties as assigned.

Career Ambassador Management and Supervision:
- Assist with overseeing and leading the Career Ambassador (undergraduates) program by providing mentorship, assisting in problem-solving, and suggesting innovative improvements to the program
- Help design and facilitate training sessions for the Career Ambassador team
- Assist in the planning and facilitation of weekly meetings for Career Ambassador staff
- Demonstrate organizational and attention-to-detail skills by tracking and assigning all presentation requests for Career Services
- Help with drop-in resume reviews as needed
- Assist with timesheets and other administrative tasks related to the Career Ambassador program
- Assist supervisor with conducting annual career ambassador performance evaluations, timesheet review/approval and other administrative tasks related to the Career Ambassador program

Career Advising:
- Facilitate one-to-one career advising sessions with students and/or alumni regarding career readiness (resume and cover letter writing/reviews; interview preparation; mock interviews; job and internship search strategies; and general career inquiries) and career exploration
- Individualize career advising sessions based upon analysis of audience needs
- Educate Illinois State University students, staff, and faculty on appropriate uses of career-related resources
- Counsel students during career advising sessions to pursue career goals and/or career exploration and encourage follow-up with career advisor as needed
- Conduct career-related workshops/presentations for undergraduates, Registered Student Organizations (RSOs), and additional groups as assigned
- Individualize presentations based upon analysis of audience needs

Programming/Events:
- Assist in the development of new career programming based on needs of campus constituents
- Collaborate with Career Services team in the execution of programs and events
- Assist Career Services staff in the execution of special events and programs such as career fairs, the graduate school series, and general career programming

Administrative/Other Duties as Assigned:
- Attend Career Services meetings, training and professional development sessions as required - Help with other duties as assigned that support Career Services mission

Career Services' mission is to empower and support Redbirds to achieve their professional goals by providing resources, experiences, and industry connections.

The Career Ambassador Graduate Assistant (CAGA) will serve in a paraprofessional capacity, providing administrative and strategic support to uphold the objectives of Career Services. The CAGA will help provide oversight of the Career Ambassador program, which services Illinois State University students with their career development and career readiness needs, such as resume and cover letter review, facilitating presentations, and supporting Career Services programs and events. They will also represent Career Services at university-sponsored events.


Salary Rate / Pay Rate

$1473 per month


Required Qualifications

1. Eligible for appointment as per the requirements in the Graduate Assistant Handbook which can be found at http://hr.illinoisstate.edu/downloads/GA_Handbook.pdf
2. Must be a degree seeking graduate student at Illinois State University in any of the following programs: MBA, MAA
3. Experience giving presentations to varying size audiences
4. Detail-oriented, critical thinking and problem-solving skills a must
5. Ability to work effectively on several projects simultaneously
6. Ability to work cooperatively in a team
7. Technical skills including Microsoft Office Suite
8. Ability to work evenings and weekends

Illinois State University student employees are restricted to no more than 28 hours per week of on-campus employment for all positions held. International students are restricted by their visa status to no more than 20 hours per week of on-campus employment when the university is in session but may work up to 28 hours per week when the university is not in session. Please contact the Office of International Student and Scholar Services for guidance on visa restrictions on work hours. The University cannot grant exceptions to visa status rules/laws.
