Detailed Position Information
The University of Alabama Online invites applications for a Legends 101/201 (First Year Compass Course) Instructor position beginning in the Spring 2025 semester. This twelve-month, non-tenure earning position is renewable annually depending on need, funding, and performance. This position will work with all incoming undergraduate students enrolling in UA Online.

Beginning in Fall 2025, The University of Alabama's Built by Bama General Education curriculum requires all new incoming students to complete Legends 101 (freshmen) or Legends 201 (transfers), a one-hour, graded course that introduces students to a big idea, engages students in critical thinking, and facilitates community building. The online courses will be taught using an interdisciplinary approach to a topic. The course will also introduce students to campus resources, career and major exploration, time management, and financial management. All content will be tailored to meet the needs of adult and non-traditional students and will be delivered over the course of the academic semester (fall, spring and summer semesters). UA Online admits 500-600 new undergraduate students annually who will be required to complete this course.

Responsibilities include the following:

* Serve in a full-time instructor capacity (work a minimum of 38.75 hours per week)

* Teach the semester-long, 1 credit, distance Legends 101 course to distance learning students

* Prepare each distance Legends 101 section by creating course schedules, updating course links, adding users, and revising Blackboard content to fit each section

* Actively participate in the online course five days per week

* Hold variety of afternoon and evening office hours three days per week

* Create weekly video announcements and host live Zoom sessions periodically during the semester

* Collaborate with Instructional Designers during the course development process, which includes creating and revising course content (assignments, rubrics, and tutorial videos) during the course revision process

We seek a talented and innovative instructor who can work with groups of adult and non-traditional online learners. As a community of knowledge builders, we are looking for a productive and creative colleague who, through teaching, will bring new perspectives to the delivery of an online course and online instructional practices.

Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must have an earned master's degree. Candidates must have a strong record of excellent teaching and communication skills and experience teaching. This position requires flexibility to work days, nights, and weekends.
