Position SummaryThe Departments of
Language, Literacy, and Sociocultural Studies (LLSS) and Teacher Education,
Educational Leadership and Policy (TEELP) at the University of New Mexico,
invite applications for a full time, Lecturer III in Secondary Education Literacy beginning August 2025; the position shall remain open until filled.

UNM is the state's

strong connections with 23 tribal sovereign nations located within New Mexico.
As such, successful candidates must be committed to working with broadly
diverse student and community populations.

The successful
candidate will have completed all requirements for the Ph.D. in Reading/Literacy Education, English Education, language
literacy and sociocultural studies with specialization in literacy, or a
closely related field before Fall 2025. The candidate's teaching
experience will indicate specialization in K-8 teaching
in the U.S. and/or international settings. The successful candidate will teach
a full course load of 4/4 courses at the
undergraduate and graduate levels in both departments as needed, depending on
the candidate's
expertise.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

1.Earned doctorate from an accredited university in Reading/Literacy Education, English Education, language literacy and sociocultural studies with specialization in literacy, or a closely related field. All requirements for the doctorate must have been completed by the time of the start date of the appointment in August 2025.

2.Minimum of three years of successful experience as a Secondary educator (6-12) in urban, rural, or high need districts.

3.Certification in or willingness to be trained in the science of reading (or a reading endorsement).

4.Experience with a variety of course delivery methods.

Preferred Qualifications:

1.Minimum of five (5) years of experience teaching in the content area in public secondary (grades 6-12) schools in urban, rural, or high need districts.

2.Evidence of excellence or potential for excellence in teaching courses in Secondary Reading/Literacy education, English Language Arts methods, or related.

3.Approaches literacy in teaching from a multilingual perspective and considers the ways in which literacies live and are enacted in racialized bodies, politicized educational spaces, and/or diverse communities.

4.Ability to propose and develop innovative courses and programs that support professional learning for teachers around literacy that would also be embraced as relevant and timely for the Peoples of New Mexico.

5.Demonstrated commitment and experience with diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success. As well as working with broadly diverse, multilingual youth and communities.

6.Potential for leadership within the institution, community settings, and/or within state and national organizations.

7.Experience with or knowledge of education in urban and/or rural and Indigenous settings.

6) A letter from the graduate chair indicating the status of dissertation work (required for Ph.D. Candidate applicants who will graduate and obtain a Ph.D. degree before the first day of employment).
7) References will be solicited from semifinalists.

Applicants who are appointed to a UNM faculty position are required to provide an official certification of successful completion of all degree requirements prior to their initial employment with UNM.
