Apex seeks an accredited Lead Verifier for Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions to support its growing Sustainability and ESG Assurance Services Practice. The GHG Emissions Lead Verifier will lead verification and assurance engagements with corporate clients across multiple industry sectors. Successful candidates for this role have several years of direct experience working as a Lead Verifier role on verification and assurance of Sustainability and ESG data, applying methodologies and procedures based on ISAE 3000 and ISO 14064-3, among others. To be eligible for consideration for this role, candidates must have training/accreditation as an ISO 14001 or 50001 Lead Auditor. Accreditation as a Lead Verifier under the California Air Resources Board's (CARB) Mandatory Reporting Rule is a plus.

* Serve as Lead Verifier/Assuror on a variety of sustainability assurance projects for external clients

o Sustainability metrics verification and assurance - manage and conduct verification/assurance of corporate sustainability reporting environmental, social, and governance (ESG) data under several standards (GRI, SASB, TCFD, CDP, etc.)

o 3rd-party verification of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions (Greenhouse Gas Protocol Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3) following internal procedures and external standards and guidelines

* Lead assurance engagement teams, overseeing project contributions of staff verifiers, providing technical oversight of, and communicating effectively with, project teams in a primarily virtual environment

* Provide consulting services to external non-assurance clients

o Create inventory management plans for greenhouse gases and other sustainability/ESG metrics

o Develop sustainability inventories, such as GHG, water, and waste for stakeholder and public reporting

o Identify, gather, analyze, and interpret data related to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) assertions on behalf of clients

o Assist in the establishment of goals, targets, and KPI's for organizations and management teams

* Project management and planning of assurance and consulting projects, including, but not limited to, budget management, proposal development, and updating internal tools used for project management, budget, and business development

* Support the continued training, professional development, recruitment, and mentorship of staff in a growing assurance practice

* As the Practice grows and expands, supervise and manage a team of staff assurors and consultants

* Organize and maintain project data for record-keeping, internal audit and quality assurance.

* Contribute to the team's success by building and maintaining strong client and internal relationships

* Identify, obtain, and maintain credentials as the sustainability industry evolves and to meet client and company needs

Qualifications we seek:

Apex recognizes that a variety of professional backgrounds can be successful in this role and encourages candidates who possess many, if not all, of the qualifications listed below to apply.

* Bachelor's Degree in related field, including but not limited to: Environmental Science, Engineering, Sustainability, Geology, Geography, Environmental Science, Data Science, Economics, Business, or Public Policy

* 6+ years of experience in sustainability assurance, with a minimum of 2 years of experience serving as an accredited Lead Verifier/Assuror on assurance engagements

* Training/accreditation as an ISO 14001 or 50001 Lead Auditor

* Accreditation as a CARB Lead Verifier a plus, but not required

* Advanced carbon accounting experience

* Knowledge of/experience with reporting and/or assurance of other ESG metrics

* Strong quantitative analysis skills

* Strong communication and technical writing skills

* Ability to successfully balance competing project deadlines

* Experience with data management and report preparation

* Safety awareness and a good record and understanding of safe work practices

* Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, specifically Excel

* Ability to record important information accurately and concisely so that it can be recalled correctly at a later date

* Travel approximately 10-20%
