Senior Program Manager - Community Engagement Wayne County

Hybrid Role: Must be able to come on-site periodically and reside a commutable distance from the assigned work location.

Emergency Response: Yes - Must be available to perform a primary assignment in support of DTE's emergency response to storms or other events that impact service to our customers.

Job Summary

Responsible for planning execution and monitoring of Community Engagement strategy, to enhance the company's overall credibility and reputation. Develops recommendations to Senior Management for specific program enhancements and expansions. Plays a critical role in identifying, cultivating, and managing relationships with external stakeholders and serves as point of contact for DTE in the community. Represents DTE externally at events and in interactions with external stakeholders and organizations. Implements ongoing process improvements to improve efficiencies of programs. Collaborates and integrates with team members and internal partners across the company to ensure that organizational goals and strategies are realized. Span of control: 0; Individual Contributor role

Key Accountabilities
  • Manages and directs the consistent implementation of the strategic and tactical activities for the selected Community Engagement program that will improve reputation and credibility in the communities that the company serves
  • Initiates new ideas or approaches and challenges current practices or approaches with sound alternatives
  • Develops and maintains positive business relationships with internal and external stakeholders and decision makers
  • Defines scope, establishes and monitors program goals and metrics, prepares business cases and presentations for proposed significant changes in program scope and content
  • Leads, builds and works with cross-functional teams within Community Engagement across the company, and with external organizations. Leverages the resources of all Community Engagement groups, as well as other corporate support and operational groups to implement programs
  • Utilizes Continuous Improvement principles, methods and tools in developing and implementing programs and identifying/improving processes
  • Leads the analysis of existing projects and programs through after-action reviews and other effectiveness reviews to determine improvements or recommendations for expansion or phase-out
  • Represents Community Engagement at cross functional meetings
  • Represents DTE with external organizations at meetings and events
  • Leads the development of and presents formal and informal presentations to Senior Management
  • Mentor less experienced Community Engagement employees
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree inPublic Policy, Communications, Business Administration, Marketing, or related discipline with 5 years of job relevant experience

  • Extensive network connections in Wayne County, Michigan
  • Experience working with cities and local government on advocacy and engagement efforts
  • Excellent partnership building skills with forming and maintaining external relationships
  • Consulting/influencing/negotiating skills to build relationships and influence internal and external stakeholders & decision makers
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of people and groups to achieve effective and efficient results
  • Ability to attend external events during and outside of normal work hours
  • Ability to manage multifaceted projects across multiple environments
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal, writing, and oral communication skills, diplomacy and discretion, critical thinking, and judgment with all levels inside and outside the company
  • Demonstrated capability to think strategically, meet deadlines and balance concurrent projects under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment and often changing priorities
  • Self-motivated with a proven ability to work independently
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills consistent with the ability to identify key issues from a broad range of alternatives, and recommend optimal solutions for various situations
  • Computer skills including MS PowerPoint, MS Excel and project management software, & MS SharePoint
  • Local/Regional travel required
