POSITION SUMMARY:

Install, maintain, and repair machinery, boilers, equipment, physical structures, and pipe and electrical systems. Responsible for the operation of the boiler. (Required to work towards First Class boilers license.) Embrace the Balchem safety philosophy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (The Below Skills are preferred and are not all considered to be required)



  • Assure that work assignments are carried out in accordance with all safety programs procedures, standards, and policies and are completed safely, accurately, and by the deadlines
  • Electrical Troubleshooting (Preferred Skills)

    • Knowledge of AC and DC Electrical systems and components

      • Low and High Voltage
      • Single and 3 Phase systems


    • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and schematics
    • Ability to use a multi-meter
    • Ability to troubleshoot electrical issues and failures
    • Ability to Remove and Replace motors and VFDs
    • PLC Troubleshooting is a plus


  • Hydraulic systems (Preferred Skills)

    • Troubleshooting of basic systems
    • Investigation of systems for leaks and proper valve operation
    • Replacement of pump components when necessary
    • Replacement of hydraulic cylinders


  • Pneumatic systems (Preferred Skills)

    • Troubleshooting of basic systems
    • Investigation of systems for air leaks and proper valve and solenoid operation
    • Solenoid and valve replacement
    • Pneumatic cylinder replacement


  • HVAC systems (Preferred Skills)

    • Basic troubleshooting of systems
    • Replacement of motors, belts, pulleys
    • HVAC license a plus


  • Boiler systems (Preferred Skills Upon Licensure)

    • Monitor boiler systems
    • Troubleshooting of Boiler systems
    • Steam trap and valve replacement


  • Welding (Preferred Skills)

    • Mig and Tig experience
    • Food Grade Welding Experience


  • Fabrication (Preferred Skills)

    • Ability to navigate the following pieces of equipment

      • Band Saw
      • Drill Press
      • Mill
      • Lathe
      • Hydraulic Press
      • Grinders




  • Computer (Preferred Skills)

    • Ability to properly navigate e-mail in a timely manner
    • Ability to navigate maintenance computer system to complete PM work orders, and Routine work orders in a timely manner


  • Ensures that equipment repairs remain functional and are not a contributor to continued downtime
  • Understand and comply with company policies and city, state, and federal requirements to safely maintain facility grounds
  • Document activities in an organized and accurate manner for effective communication with teammates and other employee-owners. (Including Work Orders, PM records, Order Requisitions, Inventory Lists, Parts Requisitions, etc.)
  • Complete painting, grouting, grounds maintenance, water treatment, carpentry, plumbing, metal fabrication, and electrical work by the deadlines indicated
  • Repair and maintain physical structure of establishment
  • Perform preventative maintenance on all equipment in the facility by visually inspecting, testing machinery and equipment to ensure proper function and promote efficiency to ensure breakdowns due to maintenance issues are controlled
  • Rebuild and maintain a wide range of equipment, including, but not limited to process equipment, forklifts, motors, pumps, piping, and other facility equipment in a successful and timely manner
  • Other duties may be assigned


REQUIREMENTS:



  • High school education, in addition to strong math, verbal, and oral communication skills, are required
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
  • Must be able to work independently to organize and prioritize tasks to manage the daily workload
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations
  • When plant production is operational on weekends and holidays, the maintenance technician is expected to work his/her appropriate shift
  • Ability to manage change, interruptions, and the unpredictable nature of this business is paramount to being successful in this position
  • A MN 2B boilers license is required for this position


WORKING CONDITIONS:



  • Production environment in a manufacturing location
  • Noise level is moderate to loud
  • Exposure to machine noise and food dust
  • Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and with or around various chemicals
  • Production environment includes varying temperatures (heat, cold, and moisture)
  • May be exposed to allergens such as eggs, wheat, peanuts, dairy products, tree nuts, and soy products, as well as latex and powders
  • Standing, walking, lifting >80% of the time
  • Must be able to frequently move objects weighing up to 55 pounds
  • May be required to work in confined spaces
  • Exposure to wet, slippery floors from ingredients and water solutions
  • Must be able to work Overnight
