Department Overview
Graduate, Undergraduate and Equity Affairs at the UC Office of the President provides leadership and support for efforts that advance UC equity and inclusion, close equity gaps, promote access to and successful completion of baccalaureate and graduate degrees, and help to provide an exemplary University experience for all. Position Summary
Under the general direction of the Manager of Admissions Analytics, the position supports systemwide admissions policy development and analysis and operations. Applies skills as an experienced professional with a full understanding of policies and procedures related to undergraduate admissions and academic preparation for UC. Primarily deals with UC systemwide policies, programs, and projects that are complex in nature and diverse in scope. Produces reports and briefings summarizing findings and data analyses to properly inform key decision makers and stakeholders including UCOP staff, the Academic Senate, Regents, state agencies and legislative members, and intersegmental constituents. Provides research and analytical support in strategy and policy review, development and implementation for both freshman and transfer admission at the University of California. *This position is eligible for a remote work arrangement within the state of California. The selected candidate must reside within the state of California or be willing to relocate.

Key Responsibilities

40% Policy and Data Analysis, Planning & Coordination: Conducts research and analyses using publicly available datasets and published research. Synthesize admissions data and present it in a creative, clear and non-technical manner. Coordinate and assist with developing policy briefings for UC leadership on important initiatives and high visibility and sensitive issues such as eligibility and admission policy, student access, enrollment, diversity and student success. Assists in the development of UC's undergraduate admissions reports to the Regents, Academic Senate, and the legislature. Proactively identify trends, emerging issues and opportunities in higher education through environmental scanning. Contribute to an analytical agenda to inform policymaking consistent with the mission of the University of California and Undergraduate Admissions.

30% Program Support: Participate on policy and planning committees and working groups for implementation of various admission programs and operations.

25% Communications: Contributes to a wide variety of communication and written materials for different audiences including policy briefings and presentations for The Regents, senior UC leadership, the Academic Senate, the Associate Vice Provost for Undergraduate Admissions, and external agencies and stakeholders.

5% Other Duties: Attends classes, seminars and conferences that enhance professional expertise and foster managerial competency. Participates in activities that enhance the UC community and support the university mission. Upholds the organization's Principles of Community and assures that those values are upheld throughout the department. Other duties as assigned.

Experience
Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience or combination of experience and graduate education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum 4 years of secondary or postsecondary experience.

Skills and Abilities
Required Qualifications

  • Strong policy analysis techniques.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills to independently interpret complex policies and processes.
  • Strong ability to research, analyze, and synthesize relevant information/data for preparing sound proposals and recommendations.
  • Strong content expertise in education policy, preferably higher education
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization and to a variety of internal/external audiences, both verbally and in writing.
  • Advanced knowledge of common computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office suite).
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of UC undergraduate admissions policy, processes, protocols and procedures including campus implementation of systemwide admissions policy and California K-12 public education systems
  • Demonstrated proficiency in programs to analyze data and ability to prepare compelling graphs, tables and other visuals using Excel, Powerpoint, Tableau and/or similar applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate the effect of proposals and ideas of various constituencies, understand the policy implications of ideas for program structure, and determine the technical implications of proposals for campus operations and workload considerations.

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Travel Requirements
25% Convening and participating in systemwide meetings at all UC campuses.

The University of California, Office of the President, is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range shows the growth potential for this position and the pay scale is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.
