Position Highlights |
The Phoenix Biomedical Campus (PBC) Planning and Operations team handles campus services such as security, emergency preparedness, maintenance, custodial, motor pool, and utilities.
The Campus is a 30-acre, urban medical and bioscience campus with more than 1.7 million square-feet of biomedical-related research, academic, and clinical facilities with plans for more. It is the only site where you will find all 3 of Arizona's public universities in one location conducting and collaborating in research. Planning & Operations is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for learning, research, and work through the highest quality trained maintenance staff. This position will provide leadership, direction, coordination and supervision for the facilities and operations area at the downtown Phoenix campus. This position will report to the Associate Vice President of University Facility Services in Tucson by providing input, operational oversight, and organizational leadership to assure that UArizona Phoenix is able to grow and operate effectively, in accordance with all UArizona and ABOR policies and procedures. This position will work closely with and under the supervision of the Executive Director to coordinate facilities maintenance, security, and other areas at the downtown Phoenix campus. Duties & Responsibilities |
- Plan, direct, manage staff and coordinates the work of subordinate employees including regular performance appraisals, coaching, recommendations for discipline, and recommendations for new staffing as appropriate.
- Manage and direct the Facility teams and ensuring fulfillment of duties associated with contracts, financial arrangements with vendors, renewal or new contracts as needed. Develop with appropriate University offices a process for outsourced services and new services that can be used to complete maintenance projects.
- Develop and maintain long-term financial and operational planning reflecting the needs of the UA in Phoenix and nearby areas as it relates to facilities maintenance keeping pace with campus growth. Develop programs, practices, and procedures for specific campus services to provide effective, efficient, and safe methods of operations. Take part in all Phoenix campus planning efforts as a major stakeholder for University planning and local planning and provide input for growth. Responsible for customer services, relationships with other departments and the public.
- Regularly reviews and revises department goals with UA Phoenix leaders, Business Affairs Leaders, and campus constituents. Effectively communicates and leads employees to fulfill those goals. Identify, vet, and implement cost saving measures with a focus on sustainability in all areas. Develop annual budget for Phoenix Operations. Compile information for budget estimates and special projects. Track expenditures to ensure adherence to the budget. Schedule work projects and balance assignments for effective utilization of personnel and equipment.
- Regularly reviews and revises department goals with UA Phoenix leaders, Business Affairs Leaders, and campus constituents. Effectively communicates and leads employees to fulfill those goals. - Oversee maintenance/work request systems for campus, fulfillment of requests, workloads in order to promote a well-maintained campus. Use maintenance/work request system to help develop plans for campus maintenance including financial and operation plans.
- Manage and direct the UA Phoenix campus service areas including Grounds, Mail & Delivery, and Custodial. Plan, direct, and manage staff and coordinate the work of subordinate employees, including regular performance appraisals, coaching recommendations for discipline, and recommendations for new staffing as appropriate. Regularly review and revise department goals with AVP's and campus constituents. Effectively communicate and lead employees to fulfill these goals.

Minimum Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent
advanced learning attained through professional level experience required. - Minimum of 5 years of related work experience, including 2
years of managerial experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience. - Must have a valid driver's license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Seven or more years of experience in a relevant higher education position.
- Master's degree in a relevant field.
- Facilities related certifications
- Membership in industry organization
