JOB SUMMARY

McKenney's is seeking individuals who are detail-oriented and want to put their skills and experience to use solving challenging problems in a wide variety of market segments from healthcare to mission critical, life sciences, office, and hospitality.

Estimators will work in a team setting to develop accurate, constructible, and timely HVAC estimates while meeting McKenney's estimating standards. Estimators have the primary responsibility to review project specifications, perform take-offs, and develop trade-specific estimates to be used in the overall HVAC estimates and proposals. Estimators should be comfortable working in all stages of project development, from conceptual through design documents. The Estimator will have the opportunity to become familiar with all HVAC estimates across a wide variety of project types. They will also play a key part in improving estimating tools, interfacing with project teams, and supporting change and progress as a member of a dynamic, growing company.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

*Accurately and efficiently perform material and labor take-offs in compliance with McKenney's fabrication standards, project plans, project specifications, and code requirements.

*Effectively and proactively communicate with project managers, project engineers, field foremen, estimators, and sales engineers during the bid process and throughout construction.

*Proactively identify and communicate areas of deficiency/gaps/safety risks along with proposed solutions on estimates to support timely completion of proposals.

*Rely heavily on experience and past industry knowledge to advise project teams, and project engineers on the constructability of each project.

*Source and qualify material and subcontractor bids in adherence to project documentation.

*Serve as the expert on QuoteExpress, FastDUCT, and McKenney's Estimator and use these tools to accurately and timely prepare estimates.

*Use computer skills, knowledge, and experience to lead constant improvement of estimating systems, processes, and bid accuracy.

*Work with the Manufacturing teams to proactively update productivity metrics, understand new/existing capabilities, and overall seek areas of improvements in the design/build workflow.

*Identify typical estimating assemblies/modules and facilitate their usage in estimates.

*Assist in updating material and labor pricing in estimating systems.

*Attend job review meetings to obtain feedback on closed-won projects.

*Actively pursue self-development of skills as it relates to the duties of this job position.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

*Minimum 3 years experience with a Degree in Engineering or Building Construction Management or a relevant degree

*If no degree, an HS diploma with at least 5 years of construction supervisory experience in the mechanical trades.

*Must have basic PC experience in Windows environments, working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook), Web-enabled applications and database software. Have intermediate-level experience with Excel.

*Exceptional time management, multitasking, communication, and interpersonal skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

*Experience with MEP estimating software.

*Experience with QuoteExpress and/or FastDUCT.

*Extensive experience and knowledge of Sheet Metal constructability.

*Experience using Revit 2019 or AutoCAD.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:

  • Work involves limited exposure to elements, such as hot/cold temperatures, dirt, dust, and/or loud noises.
  • The work environment involves some exposure to construction-related hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
  • Light physical effort. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds and some standing or walking.
  • Work requires local and occasional out-of-town travel to job sites and customer locations.
