DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The intern will play a crucial role in supporting mapping initiatives by utilizing GIS software alongside the office's digital mine map repository, specifically for the Department's Mine Subsidence Insurance Program. The intern will assist with scanning hard copy maps, georeferencing them, and creating and editing various mining related GIS layers from the maps. Additionally, the intern will be responsible for inputting mining-related data into multiple databases. The availability of maps in a digital format enhances their accessibility and reliability, facilitating efficient distribution to individuals seeking the information contained within them.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time internship that will run from 5/1/2025 through 8/29/2025
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Internship Requirements:
- Current full-time enrollment in a bachelor's degree, or advanced degree program in one of the following majors:
- Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
- Geography
- Cartography
- An approved major course of study at an accredited college or university
- Good academic standing (2.0 GPA or higher)
- Freshman year completed
- Pennsylvania residency or enrollment at a Pennsylvania college or university
Additional Requirements:
- This position requires possession of a valid Class C non-commercial driver's license.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
