This full-time position offers a competitive salary and benefits commensurate with experience. The posted UC system-wide salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. 100% Application Window Open date: December 11, 2024 Next review date: Monday, Jan 13, 2025 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Final date: Thursday, Jul 31, 2025 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Position description We seek a collaborative, creative, and motivated Environmental Data Science Instructor to join our NCEAS Learning Hub team. The NCEAS Learning Hub's mission is to support environmental scientists throughout their data science journey. We teach core data science curriculum, facilitate collaborative learning, and promote best practices in open science through a diverse portfolio of in-person and virtual trainings. The Training Program Manager will be responsible for leading training events, developing and maintaining curricula, facilitating synthesis science research, and supporting the growth of our environmental data science training programs. The trainings offered by the Learning Hub vary in style (e.g., hour-long workshops, multi-day in-person events), focus (e.g., R, Git, data management, open science, team science, Python), and audience (e.g., graduate students, researchers, industry and agency representatives). This position will play a crucial role in developing training opportunities that address the needs of environmental scientists and professionals, helping them to stay on top of the changing landscape of these fields. The position will also support our full portfolio of Learning Hub programs, such as our introductory to environmental data science course, coreR, and contribute to training efforts led by projects housed at NCEAS, such as the Gulf Ecosystem Initiative, Arctic Data Center, Morpho Initiative, and the LTER Network Office among others. RESIDENCY AT NCEAS: NCEAS is located in scenic downtown Santa Barbara, California. Established in 1995, NCEAS is a research center of the University of California, Santa Barbara, and has a growing and thriving community of postdocs, resident scientists, and analysts, and a frequent influx of leading scientists and practitioners from around the world for scientific training and working groups. For 30 years, NCEAS has been developing data science tools, supporting environmental research, and training environmental scientists. There is broad acknowledgment that NCEAS has significantly altered the way ecological science is conducted toward being more collaborative, open, integrative, relevant, and technologically informed.
