We are seeking a Global Process Safety Lead - Operations within our Global Process Safety team at Air Products! The Global Process Safety team provides direction and support to the regional businesses. This position can be located in the United States (Allentown-PA, Houston, TX or Louisiana), Shanghai, China, The Hague, Netherlands or Hersham-UK with approximately 20-30% travel globally.

This new position works with the regional operating teams to drive outstanding Process Safety performance globally. It covers all scales of operation, from small sites to large or multi-plant sites, and the entire supply chain delivering molecules to the customer. It also provides technical leadership and support for the company's growth platform for new world scale production of hydrogen and ammonia.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Partner with global Operational Excellence, regional Operations and Process Safety teams to champion Process Safety Management (PSM) and promote Operational Discipline (OpD) as key components of safety excellence.
  • Work closely with regional EHS teams to ensure integrated safety efforts across Process Safety, worker safety, and emergency response. This includes joint training, incident investigations, trend analysis, and corrective action plans.
  • Lead the development and implementation of PSM and OpD programs, tailored to the needs of each region and facility, in collaboration with regional and global teams.
  • Provide ongoing support to regional Process Safety managers and teams, serving as an escalation point for complex safety challenges. Mentor junior and senior engineers, sharing best practices and lessons learned.
  • Coordinate regular reviews of incident and near-miss data with regional teams, developing region-specific improvement plans and addressing systemic safety issues.
  • Incorporate Human Performance principles into incident investigations, training, and process improvements. Train teams to identify and mitigate Human Performance risks across operations.
  • Assist regional Process Safety teams with M&A activities, ensuring thorough due diligence and seamless integration of Process Safety and OpD practices.
  • Engage with industry peers to develop and implement best practices in Process Safety. Stay current on external advancements and continuously introduce new approaches to improve safety standards.
  • Develop and manage critical metrics to measure the effectiveness of global and regional safety initiatives, ensuring continuous improvement.
Required Skills and Experience:
  • Strong technical background in Process Safety and Operational Discipline, with a proven ability to lead safety improvement projects and solve complex technical issues.
  • Experience collaborating with global and regional teams, including operational, engineering, and safety professionals, to implement and sustain safety programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and lead teams, fostering a culture of safety and operational excellence.
  • Track record of developing innovative solutions to process safety challenges and driving continuous improvement.
  • Recognized as a leader in Process Safety, with the ability to influence industry standards and practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across different regions, teams, and leadership levels.
  • Willingness to travel internationally up to 30%.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in managing large-scale Process Safety and operational safety programs, ideally in the industrial gas, chemicals, or energy sectors.
  • Strong understanding of PSM regulations, standards, and industry best practices.
  • Ability to analyze data, generate insights, and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Science, or equivalent experience,
  • 20 years of operational experience, primarily in Process Safety Management and/or Operational Discipline. To include hazards analysis, risk assessment, incident investigation, site assessments, continuous improvement, trends analysis, training, plus operational work processes such as Management of Change,
  • Strong communicator,
  • Strong training skills with experience working with operating roles,
  • Experienced complex RCA facilitation skills,
  • Experience leading teams supporting operating assets,
  • Experience collaborating and mentoring across regions and cultures,
  • Valid Driver's License and good driving record.
Preferred Qualifications / Skills:
  • Passion for driving outstanding performance.
  • Demonstrated dedication to safety excellence.
  • Extensive experience applying Human Performance in a workplace.
  • Process Safety industry certifications.
