Position Description:

University of Iowa Stead Family Department of Pediatrics seeks a pediatric geneticist.Appointment rank is open and may be to either the tenure track or clinical (non-tenure) track consistent with clinical experience and research interest.Appointment rank to Instructor of Pediatrics (non-tenure or clinical track) may also be considered.The individual selected will join the Division of Pediatrics and Medical Genetics and Genomics to provide patient care, teaching, and consultative services as a pediatrician specializing in genetics.

The Division of Medical Genetics and Genomics is committed to excellence in providing comprehensive services for children, adults and prenatal patients in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of genetic conditions. The Division's multidisciplinary team is comprised of board certified medical geneticists, a molecular genetic pathologist, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, genetic counselors, nurses, and dietitians. Our clinics include: General Genetics Clinics, Metabolic Genetics Clinics, Connective Tissue Disorder Clinics, Neurofibromatosis Clinics, Cancer Predisposition, Multidisciplinary Tuberous Sclerosis Clinics, and Outreach Genetics Clinics. Genetic diseases and disorders affect families as well as individuals. The medical team provides the information, support and follow-up needed to make informed decisions. Our medical genetics team collaborates with state and federal agencies, educators, researchers, support groups and others to provide the latest information and treatment options for Iowans and their families.

The University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine is one of the nation's top medical schools. It is rankedTier 2 in the 2024 U.S. News & World Report listing of "Best Graduate Schools: Research" and it is ranked No. 47 in National Institutes of Health funding among public institutions by the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research. Stead Family Department of Pediatrics is ranked No. 29 in NIH funding among all public pediatric departments nationwide.

The pediatrics department comprises the medical staff of University of Iowa Health Care Stead Family Children's Hospital, Iowa's only nationally ranked children's hospital and home to the state's only accredited Level 1 Regional Resource Pediatric Trauma Center. The ACGME-accredited pediatric residency program at Stead Family Children's Hospital trains 50 pediatric resident physicians.

For its 2024-25 edition of "Best Children's Hospitals," U.S. News & World Report ranked Stead Family Children's Hospital in nine pediatric specialties:

Education Requirement:

Must hold an MD/DO degree, or equivalent

Required Qualifications:

Board certified or eligible in Pediatrics, or equivalent

Board certified or eligible in clinical genetics, or equivalent

Candidates must be licensed or eligible for medical licensure in the State of Iowa

Desirable Qualifications:

Board certified or eligible in biochemical genetics

Clinical experience in pediatric medical genetics

Demonstrated ability to develop and implement new programs

Experience in patient-oriented research

Teaching competence in pediatrics for medical students and residents

Evidence of scholarly activity

Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
