Job Purpose

The Safety Dept. Manager represents Honda to the agency and the agency within Honda. They oversee all Honda safety team activities related to emerging-issue trend monitoring and identification as well as investigation trend monitoring and identification, coordinating internal activities of emerging issues and official investigations, coordinating and reporting safety agency inquiries and official investigations. Trend monitoring includes weekly data analysis of quality metrics, identifying potential agency concern items and coordinating internal investigation plan with quality stakeholders. For inquiries and investigations, the manager will ensure team manages quality group analysis and create detail reports for agency reporting.

Key Accountabilities

  • Represent and report safety agency & customer viewpoints to quality stakeholders.
  • Oversee and assist with quality and defect data analysis (VOQ, warranty, ACS, etc) to identify emerging issues from a customer perspective that would be of safety agency concern.
  • Create and support cross-divisional defect investigations of emerging and existing investigations to ensure these investigations meet agency expectations for reporting.
  • Create and oversee government safety agency defect reports with a critical eye to required detail, quality and essential timeliness of government deadlines.
  • Coordinate agency requests for data, parts and testing support.
  • Approve and report investigation results to agency Director and staff. This includes direct and concise presentations as well as confident answers to agency questions.
  • Support development safety consultations and give feedback to development teams on new features or those that are applicable to new regulations.
  • Create and maintain department metric tracking for investigation topics, agency inquiries, internal and industry recalls.
  • Maintain and manage resources, coach, supervise and foster teamwork.
  • Create and maintain department budget
  • Communicate critical concerns and risks to Division Leader in a timely manner.
  • Quality management of agency processes. Create/maintain QS/SOP for as necessary; lead continuous improvement efforts.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering
  • Minimum 10 years working in an engineering or technical environment
  • Knowledge of automotive features and functions.
  • Familiar with Knowledge of automotive safety requirements.
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills. Able to project manage independently. Problem solve and think critically to link problems towards a solution.
  • Work collaboratively with different Honda stakeholders to gather and create reports.
  • Ability to judge problems with agency and customer viewpoint.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Experience with government regulations.
  • Excellent interpersonal & supervisory skills.
  • Knowledge of Honda products and Honda policies
