DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will be responsible for performing advanced technical work in determining the liability of the Commonwealth and negotiating settlements of medical malpractice claims against healthcare providers. Work involves analyzing complex information, directing attorneys and legal expert reviews, and determining injury values through complex evaluation. You will have the opportunity to negotiate with insurers and healthcare providers for disposition of claims, represent the agency at mediation and court proceedings, and regularly negotiate settlements with claimants and attorneys in millions of dollars and binding agreements. Additional functions include:

  • Conducting thorough investigations
  • Developing comprehensive claims evaluation written reports
  • Reviewing and approving legal bills
  • Completing required releases and settlement paperwork

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM or 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Travel may be required.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. You will be required to report in-office one day per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Medical Malpractice Claims Examiner 1; or
  • Four years of experience in examining or negotiating the settlement of medical malpractice claims and a bachelor's degree; or
  • One year of experience in examining or negotiating the settlement of medical malpractice claims and an advanced degree in law (juris doctorate).
