Position Highlights

The Arizona Prevention Research Center (AzPRC) Participatory Evaluation Institute (PEI) is seeking a Participatory Evaluation Specialist to support public health evaluation and assessment projects throughout the Arizona border region. Participatory evaluation is a mutual learning process that is flexible, collaborative and oriented to the needs of the community. The Participatory Evaluation Specialist will work on a variety of public health projects with community partners to employ the principles of participatory evaluation; create evaluation plans; collect, manage, analyze and interpret quantitative and qualitative data; share evaluation findings community partners and funding agencies; support continuous quality improvement processes; disseminate results from the evaluation projects and support sustainability. The ideal candidate for this position will have experience collaborating closely with community organizations, and be passionate about assessing and improving efforts to address to public health issues, enhance health equity, and support strong public health programs in Southern Arizona.

Working arrangements for this position are flexible. The candidate must be available for regular travel around Southern Arizona to meet with partners and conduct data collection activities, including in-person meetings in Tucson.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Foster strong and trusting relationships with community partners through frequent communication, partner-led evaluation methods, advocating for the partners' needs, and activities to promote partner capacity-building and project sustainability.
  • Work and build relationships with project staff who work on the ground with community members as well as members in higher-level management positions.
  • Employ the principles of participatory evaluation to create evaluation plans and collect, manage, analyze and interpret data. Evaluation helps track project progress and support quality improvement processes through data collection, management, and reporting.
  • Share data with partners through verbal and written communication; work collaboratively to build data collection instruments and databases to effectively monitor program performance; and provide technical support to project partners.
  • Collaborate with partners to report and disseminate evaluation results and findings to community partners, project funders and other audiences; create reports, infographics, and other deliverables to tell the story of successful programs; collaborate in the presentation of evaluation findings in local, state and national conferences.
  • Participate in internal and external meetings virtually and in-person; promote open and frequent communication with community partners.
  • Participate in activities related to the AzPRC Core Areas of evaluation, translation, planning, and training.
  • Contribute to collaborative efforts to promote internal and external policies and practices about equity, race, justice, structural violence, and its impact on the health of our communities.

  • Strong analytical and writing skills.
  • Ability to use an equity lens to effectively communicate results and success stories.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to professionally write, communicate, and prepare visual presentations.
  • Basic data management and analysis skills for both qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Strong facilitation skills.
  • Familiarity with the unique environment of public health programs in the US-Mexico border region.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Public Health, Geography, Mexican-American Studies, Community Development, Social Work, Public Administration, Anthropology, Planning, or a related field.
  • Spanish speaking and writing fluency.
  • Experience working in the US-Mexico border region.
  • Experience working in a border community.
  • Experience using REDCap or similar data management software, or interest in learning REDCap.
