We are actively looking for a Highway Civil Engineer / Project Engineer to join our Ontario office. As part of the Transportation Group, the Highway Civil Engineer / Project Engineer provides project management to a variety of transportation design projects - roadway, structures, signalization, signing and pavement markings, drainage, ITS, etc. May manage projects across states, US and potentially internationally. Familiar with a variety of civil engineering type projects, surface transportation engineering type projects and has permitting experience and a strong existing professional network with municipal, local governments and/or regulatory agency staff.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Perform design project management tasks for surface transportation projects from conceptual to final design
  • Develop specifications, cost estimates, and prepare final bid packages
  • Maintain and establish working relationships with regulatory agencies, local government, NCDOT and state clients, as well as private clients
  • Develop design scope of services for design-build, design-build highway projects and/or for specific client templates
  • Provide engineering design input, RFP development, and procurement assistance for traditional design-build transportation projects
  • Mentor and assist junior engineers in developing conceptual design plans, including but not limited to roadway and bridge projects, cross sections, traffic control, drainage, and signing and pavement markings plans, identifying additional right of way needs and potential permitting requirements
  • Coordinate design activities and meetings between design staff, subcontractors, and client managers
  • Participate in project management decisions regarding technical approaches, cost and scheduling performance
  • Identify schedule and cost variances and develop and implement recommendations for corrective action when needed

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Transportation related engineering degree
  • 6 - 8+ years' experience in transportation engineering design projects
  • Professional Engineer (AICP, PP, PG, etc.) licensure in California or the ability to obtain via reciprocity within 6 months of hire
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation)
  • Availability and willingness to travel
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Base salary range:

$120,000 to $135,000 based on years of experience, level of education obtained, professional registration, and meeting required qualification in job description.

Base salary range only applicable for candidates who will be hired and working in the California markets.

Working conditions:

Sedentary for prolonged period of time, interact with clients, and travel occasionally.
