Job Description
The purpose of the Accounting Specialist I - Accounts Payable position is to process payments for vendors and employee reimbursements. This is accomplished by validating purchase orders; receiving invoices; processing payments and reconciling payment activity; and reviewing and inputting direct payment vouchers. Other duties include answering phone, e-mail, and face-to-face inquiries regarding payments; maintaining spreadsheets; and providing other support as needed.

Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia; non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement.

Required Education
High School Diploma/ GED
Required Experience
Minimum of 2 years professional experience in an accounts payable or related accounting functions.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Understanding of vendor payment processing, employee reimbursements, and purchase order management.
  • Familiarity with invoice management and expense tracking procedures.
  • Experience with financial database systems
  • Ability to accurately input, update, and retrieve financial data
  • Ability to understand and apply organizational policies governing reimbursements, payments and compliance
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel including: Creating/Maintaining detailed financial tracking spreadsheets with formulas, multiple tabs.
  • Knowledge of generating and analyzing financial reports to verify data accuracy.
  • Skill in resolving reimbursement issues and effectively communicating with employees and vendors
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to liaise with vendors, employees, and departments professionally

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with Quickbooks, Banner or other ERP systems.
  • Certification in accounting or bookkeeping

Hours per Week 40 - 100%
General Weekly Work Schedule
Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
