PRIMARY PURPOSE/GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Scripps Communities of Resources and Empowermentwas established at Scripps College to create a student-focused space dedicated to social justice, community engagement, intersectionality, and inclusivity. The office maintains its student-centered approach by offering leadership development opportunities and implementing signature programs tailored to first-generation and international college students.

Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students anda member of the Student Affairs Leadership Team, the Assistant Dean and Director of SCORE will work to further SCORE's mission and collaborate with students, staff, faculty, alumni, and other community members to deliver meaningful student programs. The Assistant Dean and Director is responsible for the supervision of professional staff as well as supervising student staff through a student development lens.

Additionally, the Assistant Dean and Director partner closely with marginalized, minoritized and identity-based student clubs and organizations to form coalitions and develop the SCORE community space. Acknowledging that students play a crucial role in cultivating a sense of belonging, the Assistant Dean and Director must possess strong student development skills and support student agency in their educational journeys. A vital aspect of this position involves collaboration and relationship-building across all divisions of Scripps College and with partners from the Claremont Colleges Consortium.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Work to advance the mission of SCORE and work collaboratively with students, staff, faculty, alumni and other community members to ensure impactful and effective student programs and support that enhance a culture of inclusion, community engagement, and actively support the goal of inclusive excellence.
  • Develop and implement SCORE policies, practices, and priorities in alignment with theScripps College IDEA Initiative DEI Frameworkof community, trust, justice, and mattering.
  • Provide supervision, professional development, and evaluation of two professional staff--International Student Advisor and Assistant Director of SCORE, as well as oversight of the International Student and First-Generation Student programs.
  • In consultation with the Vice President for Student Affairs, manage budgets and engage in responsible fiscal stewardship, ensuring that the allocation of resources aligns with departmental, divisional, and College objectives.
  • Develop relationships and partner closely with marginalized, minoritized, and identity-based student clubs and organizations.
  • Collaboratively create, implement, and evaluate student-centered programming in the areas of personal, political, cultural, and professional development tailored to meet the needs of students from under-represented populations.
  • Organize and implement workshops, presentations, learning modules, and other strategies that promote inclusion, diversity, equity, access (IDEA), social justice, and community engagement.
  • Coordinate hiring, onboarding, supervision, and evaluation of student staff/student interns.
  • Serve on College and consortia committees focused on diversity, social justice, equity, inclusion, and identity.
  • Identify, develop, and maintain strong internal and external relationships to advance the mission of SCORE.
  • Develop web-based and printed content for internal and external audiences.
  • Serve as an advocate for the ongoing work at Scripps College of fostering an inclusive, supportive, and welcoming environment for students from historically marginalized communities.
  • Oversee the management of SCORE Center scheduling, maintenance, and resource allocations.
  • Work with the Office of Institutional Research to develop and implement assessment models for departmental programs and initiatives.
  • Serve in the Administrator-On-Call (AOC) rotation, navigating and supporting students in crisis and participating in education and training for on-call professionals.
  • Actively support for the College's Principles of Community and Principles of Diversity in the performance of job duties.
  • Represent Scripps in various professional associations and at designated professional conferences.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Demonstrated competence in community engagement and conflict resolution skills to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders within an educational environment.
  • Capacity to manage various responsibilities and tasks concurrently within a lively environment.
  • Proficiency or ability to become proficient in internet applications, including social media, Microsoft Office Suite, and web management software.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Master's degree from an accredited college or university,preferably in higher education administration or relevant field.

Five years of progressive experience working full-time in higher education or student affairs is required, alongside a minimum of two years focused on students from marginalized, minoritized, and underrepresented populations is preferred.

Two years of supervisory experience is preferred.

HOURS & CLASSIFICATION AND STATUS:

This is a regular status, full-time, benefits-eligible, exempt position.

The regular hours of this position are Monday-Friday 8:00 am-5:00 pm, including some evenings and occasional weekends. Hours may vary due to the needs of the College or department.

Salary range: $90,000-$105,000 annualized. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, andtraining.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Supervises oneAssistant Director, International Student Advisor, and student employees.
