About This Role

This position provides direct support to the Accountant for Physics and Mathematics and is responsible for the day-to-day accounting tasks such as bill payment, order placement, posting transactions in the accounting program, month-end reconciliations, and reporting of all accounting projects.

Incumbent will need to organize tasks accordingly to meet deadlines while following policies and procedures set by the university or department. Incumbent will need to ensure all appropriate and necessary training is completed and compliant. Discretion is required when making purchases on behalf of the department and/or faculty to ensure the best available cost and policy compliance and must use judgment when considering available budget amounts within numerous accounts.


About Us

The Accountant I position will be part of the College of Arts and Sciences Shared Services North which services the Department of Physics, the James R MacDonald Laboratory and the Department of Mathematics. Offices for Shared Services North are located in Cardwell Hall.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:



  • High school diploma and one year of relevant experience


Preferred Qualifications:



  • 3 years of training in accounting practices and business office function and 2 years of work experience preferred within the
    accounting field.
  • Experience in grant administration.
  • Working knowledge of an accounting program, preferably QuickBooks and MIP, and of Windows applications.
  • Good oral and written communication abilities and working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
  • The ability to work within a high-volume, fast-paced setting is beneficial with strong attention to detail, organization and time-
    management skills preferred.
