General Summary of Position Provides assistance to staff in maintaining treatment areas, equipment, and supplies. Transports patients and performs clerical duties as necessary. Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.Assists technologists in preparing patients for procedure and obtains proper paperwork as necessary. Positions patient on table.Assists the department with the following Quality Assurance practices: checks off emergency supplies in all exam rooms each morning, checks Expose bottles in each exam for fullness and expiry and changes as necessary, wipes down exam tables with Expose each morning and as needed, and assists with lead apron checks, etc.Assists with moving patients to or from beds, chairs, wheelchairs, stretchers, and exam tables using proper body mechanics.Greets patients, verifies name and exam, and asks appropriate questions for clinical information as directed. Escorts out patients from waiting room to exam room. Maintains contact with patient while waiting for exam. Performs minor patient education by briefly describing machine and some things to expect during the exam, for example, need to hold breath when asked, etc.Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of treatment area, instruments, changing linens and maintaining linen supplies so that clean linen is always available, and cleans equipment.Performs duties with regard to patient safety and comfort before, during, and following treatment including careful observation and knowledge of action to be taken if post-procedure complications occur during transport. Assists with moving of patients before, during, and after a procedure using proper body mechanics. Uses appropriate isolation techniques when handling isolation patients and follows standard precautions.Performs related clerical duties such as answering phones using good phone etiquette, proper photocopying, and retrieving old studies from the Film Library in a timely manner. Coordinates with the technologists on availability of charts, old films, lab results and other necessary information. Properly uses communication systems such as intercoms, beepers, and overhead paging systems. Takes, records, and delivers messages accurately.Performs routine patient care including escorting and transports patients. Notifies all concerning departure and return of patients. Observes proper function of IV, O2, chest tubes, and fluid collection bags during transport. Reports any concerns to appropriate nursing staff. Assists patient to and from rest room, etc.Prepares patients and treatment areas prior to treatment. Sets up and removes equipment and supplies to include sterilization process and ensures that equipment is functioning properly, stored appropriately, and cleaned routinely.Responsible for storeroom orders, returns charge slips to storeroom, and keeps sterilized items current.
Minimum Qualifications Education
- High School Diploma or GED required and
- knowledge of medical terminology. required
- One year of relevant education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.
Experience
- Less than 1 year 6 months related experience required
- One year of relevant professional-level work experience may be substituted for one year of required education.
Licenses and Certifications
- CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required and
- Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic computer skills preferred.
