  • The Clinical Coordinator is a Registered Nurse who is responsible for directing and coordinating the activities of the nursing personnel in a manner reflective of the Hospital's philosophy and objectives. S/he provides leadership, guidance and consultation to nursing personnel in all clinical areas to insure achievement of continuity of optimal nursing care and increased job satisfaction. S/he assumes administrative responsibilities for the general affairs of the Hospital in the absence of the Vice President P.C.S. & C.N.O.

    Job Description
    • 1. JOB KNOWLEDGE

    a. Demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge of general nursing theory and practice.
    b. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of personnel management in assigning, coordinating and evaluating staff activities.
    2. LEADERSHIP
    a. Delegates effectively.
    b. Coordinates exchange of information between staff, physicians and administration.
    c. Manages the dynamics of changing flow and acuity of the hospital environment.
    d. Makes patient and personnel rounds on nursing units to evaluate the status of patients and staffing needs, provide teaching, feedback and reinforcement.
    3. COMMUNICATION
    a. Uses effective communication techniques based on the level of understanding.
    b. Acts as a liaison between administration, staff, physicians, patients and/or families.
    c. Receives and gives a patient report at the change of shift to learn and transmit the condition of high risk patients and any existing special concerns.
    d. Responsible for reports concerning critically ill patients, new admissions, discharges, deaths, emergency situations and employees.
    4. QUALITY
    a. Devises/supports new techniques and procedures to improve efficiency and quality of patient care, utilizing Lean theory/processes.
    b. Assists with monitoring activities related to the improvement of patient care, outcomes and/or systems.
    5. PROFESSIONAL
    a. Completes projects/assignments in a timely manner.
    b. Promotes cooperation and understanding and acts as a teacher and role model.
    c. Assumes an active role as Nursing Administration representative on nursing/hospital committees.

    III. Position Qualifications:

    License/Certification/Education:

    Required:
    1. Graduation from an accredited school of nursing; current licensure from the Massachusetts State Board of Registration in Nursing. Familiarity with organization and function of all departments; and with policy regulations and procedures of the hospital is required. American Heart Association or equivalent B.L.S. certification for health care provider required upon hire or during orientation; American Heart Association or equivalent A.C.L.S. certification for health care provider is preferred. Dr. Armstrong training required during orientation and every year thereafter. B.S.N. preferred. Pharmacy in-service required annually.

    Three years in a management position (or equivalent experience) during which time s/he has demonstrated clinical competence and leadership and teaching ability.
    Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
