We are actively looking for a Transportation Engineer to join our Long Beach office. As part of the Transportation Group, the Transportation Engineer supports in a variety of projects - rail, and roadway design projects and develop plans for projects within California. Familiar with a variety of civil engineering type projects, has permitting experience and a strong existing professional network with rail, municipal, or regulatory agency staff is desired.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Perform engineering design tasks for rail, transit and general civil projects including, but not limited to, track, grade crossing, quiet zone, safety improvements, railroad grading and drainage, 3D modeling of rail corridors, wet/dry utilities, and permit processing from preliminary to final design
  • Develop specifications, cost estimates, and prepare final bid packages
  • Coordinate effectively with various disciplines such as environmental, geotechnical, structures, surveyors, right of way, traffic, roadway, etc.
  • Coordinates with subcontractors during project execution
  • Leads junior designers in various rail/transit engineering projects
  • Begin to foster working relationships with rail and regulatory agencies, local government, and state clients, as well as private clients
  • Mentor and assist junior staff (P1 and P2) in developing final design plans
  • Assist in coordinating design activities and meetings between design staff, subcontractors, and client managers
  • Participate in project decisions regarding technical approaches, cost and scheduling performance
  • Identify schedule and cost variances and develop and implement recommendations for corrective action

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Transportation related engineering
  • 3 to 5 years of experience designing transportation/roadway/rail engineering projects
  • Software experience:
    • Microstation, AutoCAD, OpenRail Designer
    • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.)
    • Bluebeam Revu and/or Adobe Acrobat
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation)
  • Availability and willingness to travel
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Base salary range:

$97,000 to $119,000 based on years of experience, level of education obtained, professional registration, and meeting required qualification in job description.

Base salary range only applicable for candidates who will be hired and working in the California markets.

Working conditions:

Majority of work is office based. Some site visits may be required which may necessitate navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment.
