Position: Controller
Ideal Background: Experienced small business Controller, with strong accounting skills, who can close the books for two entities with completeness and accuracy. Additionally, help merge the accounting functions and build out the financial reporting. Real estate industry experience is a plus, not a must. Role: Consult-to-hire Duration: 1-4 months, with the opportunity to convert Pay: Competitive, reflective of experience Work: 100% on-site Hours: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM - likely 30 hours per week (can flex hours to work only 4 days per week) Start: ASAP Process: First complete the Culture Index Survey (5-minute assessment), then if selected have a 30-minute MS Teams meeting with the hiring managers Systems: AppFolio and QuickBooks Job Description: The Controller will lead financial oversight for a stable and well-established property portfolio. Your role involves managing financial data across multiple accounts, ensuring accuracy, policy compliance, and operational efficiency. With a focus on detail and process improvement, you'll streamline reporting and optimize financial systems using advanced technology. You'll prepare budgets, monitor performance, and report variances, taking corrective action when needed. Key responsibilities include internal audits, regulatory compliance (OSHA, Fair Housing, safety), and aligning financial goals across departments. You'll collaborate closely with property managers and a fully staffed accounting team to meet revenue targets and control expenses. This position offers direct access to ownership, a high degree of autonomy, and the ability to shape the financial direction of the portfolio.
