THE POSITION

Showcase your expertise in recreation and physical education as a Corrections Activities Specialist for the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Benner Township! We are seeking an enthusiastic and creative person to join our team and help keep the inmates active at the institution. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Corrections Activities Specialist, you will be responsible for organizing, instructing, and supervising inmate programs, leisure time activities, inmate work crews, and sports at SCI Benner Township. Your duties will include scheduling, coordinating, and teaching programs at all levels of interest and ability in the areas of sports, games, creative and performing arts, and social recreation. You can expect to coach or assist in the coaching of various sports, sports techniques, and the use of fitness equipment. Additionally, you will be required to supervise inmate organizations and self-help groups.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 12:00 PM to 8:30 PM, Tuesday - Saturday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $63,343.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree with major course work in recreation and physical education; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Other Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must meet the PA residency requirement. For more information on ways to meet PA residency requirements, follow the link and click on Residency.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
