How you make a difference in this role:

The Financial Strategic Analysis Coordinator position sits within the Operations Division in the Tennessee Department of Human Services (TDHS). The Operations Division is responsible for managing the infrastructure that supports TDHS in serving Tennesseans and includes the Office of Procurement, Facilities Management, Budget, Fiscal, Information Technology, and the Data Strategies Unit divisions. TDHS is developing collaborative and detailed financial analysis models to assist Program and Executive Leadership with management decisions. Due to the increased need of high-quality financial analysis and data review, an additional position to support the Financial Strategic Analysis division is required. This position supports the One DHS model, as it combines financial analysis with programmatic goals of the Department, to help fulfill TDHSs mission and provide quality service to our customers.

Under the general supervision of the Director of Financial Strategic Analysis, the Financial Strategic Analysis Coordinator will be responsible for performing high-quality analyses, tracking monthly financial data, collaborating with Budget and Fiscal, and providing data-based recommendations to Program and Departmental leadership. This position will have regular tasks while also supporting the Director with ad hoc larger projects, as needed. This position will play a key role in increasing financial understanding throughout the Department and will help shape the Department's financial future through recommendations and analyses. The work done in this role will have a lasting impact on Tennesseans and the Department's customers. A strong skillset in critical thinking, problem solving, and communication is required. The Financial Strategic Analysis Coordinator reports to the Director of Financial Strategic Analysis and is classified as Executive Service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform high-quality analyses and provide data-based recommendations.
  • Track and monitor monthly programmatic grant and contract spend and produce summary reports to leadership.
  • Filter, analyze, and summarize large amounts of financial data. Coordinate with Budget, Fiscal, and Program leadership to understand the Departments finances and problem solve, as needed.
  • Assist Director of Financial Strategic Analysis with larger complex projects, as needed.
  • Develop and create financial presentations for Program and Departmental leadership.
  • Assist with grants management, contract tracking, and ad hoc financial analyses.
  • Understand and effectively communicate complex financial topics to Program and Departmental leadership.
  • Collaborate with programmatic peer group to broaden financial literacy across the Department.
  • Learn and understand the Departments Programs, to effectively advise on finances.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and eight years of full-time professional work in one of the following: social/human services, education, and/or social services grant coordination.
  • Applicants for this class may be required to: Complete a criminal history disclosure form in the manner approved by the appointing authority; agree to release all records involving their criminal history to the appointing authority; supply a fingerprint sample prescribed by the TBI based on criminal history records check.
