Position Highlights |
The Pharmacology and Toxicology Department with the College of Pharmacy invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Researcher/Scientist III in the lab of Dr. Jianqin Lu at the University of Arizona. The candidate should be equipped with strong medicinal and bioconjugation chemistry skill, and the ability to design and synthesize novel drug conjugates, as well as the drug delivery and nanomedicine (liposome, polymeric and core-shell nanoparticles), in vitro and in vivo characterizations and therapeutic efficacy studies. Duties & Responsibilities |
- Synthesize and characterize novel phospholipid-derived prodrug conjugates
- Prepare and characterize the nano-formulations (e.g., liposome and polymeric nanoparticles)
- Perform in vitro cell-based testing (cytotoxicity, cellular uptake, etc)
- Conduct in vivo pharmacokinetics and biodistribution, as well as antitumor efficacy and mechanistic action studies
- Provide technical resources/support and problem solving for graduate students and undergraduate researchers
- Work on collecting data and analyzing research results. Identifies and recommends solutions to identifiable problems
- Utilize specialized knowledge to assist with writing and evaluating manuscripts and grant proposals
- Use excellent communication skills to ensure thorough understanding of the needs then engage in independent research in carrying out experiments with minimal supervision
- Provide written, verbal, and graphical presentations of research results in in group meetings, institutional seminars, and conferences
- Laboratory management, from biosafety, chemical safety, instrument operation to animal protocol approval and amendment
- Mentor, train, and supervise graduate students and undergraduate researchers
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to write manuscripts for publications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and a team setting

Minimum Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Preferred Qualifications |
- High impact publications in Organic/Medicinal Chemistry, or Drug Delivery/Nanomedicine.
- PhD in Organic/Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences, or relevant field.
