DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Forest Technician with the DCNR, you will be vital in providing expert technical assistance to the District's foresters in key areas such as forest management, pest control, and nursery culture. In this dynamic position, you will work closely with the forester crew leader, efficiently collecting data and driving forward rural and community forestry programs in Centre and Huntingdon Counties. Your data collection will be instrumental in effectively monitoring our state forest lands' condition, growth, and health. Additionally, you will actively participate in wildland fire prevention, pre-suppression strategies, and prescribed fire activities.

Furthermore, as required, you will leverage your expertise to support various program areas within the Bureau of Forestry. Your strong knowledge of forest health, management, ecological services, and fire protection will significantly contribute to our mission to safeguard and enhance our invaluable forest resources.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Seasonal full-time employment without benefits. The season runs from approximately March 2025 until November 2025 at which time the employee is placed on leave without pay.
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • An associate's degree in forest technology; or
  • Completion of equivalent formal education in forestry.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 6 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Condition of Employment:
  • This position requires possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.

Other Requirements:
  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
