THE POSITION

We are looking for an individual with a keen eye for detail to be responsible for examining and processing individual tax returns. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will acquire skills in the examination, processing, and adjustment of individual tax returns. This encompasses reviewing both internal and external resources to aid in the assessment and processing of received returns. You will learn to prepare and dispatch documentation to obtain additional information essential for processing individual tax returns. Additionally, you will examine and mathematically verify the accuracy of individual tax returns and schedules, ensuring that amounts are correctly transferred to the appropriate lines on the returns. You will also initiate transfer transactions for returns and payments to rectify any errors identified during the initial processing of individual returns. Furthermore, you will complete tasks assigned by other bureaus and respond to inquiries from both internal and external stakeholders regarding the status of returns or explanations for discrepancies or adjustments. You will be responsible for preparing and submitting production reports for work that cannot be logged by the computer system. Moreover, you will demonstrate a commitment to the service-oriented culture of the Department, remain vigilant about internal controls and risk management during process changes, and treat others fairly while adhering to diversity and inclusion program requirements in the workplace.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) full-time, with the exception of in office training for 6 months and Commonwealth Policy 1 day a month in office. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of general office work; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • This position will have access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) and is subject to the provisions of IRS Publication 1075 (Pub 1075) which requires you to pass an enhanced background check prior to beginning employment. Under Pub 1075, acceptance of a conditional offer of employment will require submission to and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to: a fingerprint-based federal records check; a PA State Police clearance; a check of local law enforcement agencies where you have lived, worked, and/or attended school within the last five (5) years; and a citizenship/residency verification.
