Intern, Technical Undergraduate Year-Round - International Safeguards and Engagements, Remote

What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a Year Round - Technical Undergraduate Intern to join our dynamic team!

On any given day, you may be called on to:

• Help a very small team of developers maintain and extend the functionality of existing applications. The applications are running at customer sites so you will likely work on tasks from the full software release lifecycle from fixing bugs to discussing - or perhaps arguing politely -- with team-mates about how best to design new functionality to fit into legacy software. There will likely also be tasks associated with the dreaded documenting and testing of new release.

• Help another small team design and populate a searchable database of gamma spectra. Part of this project's effort is to find United States government spectral data that can be stored in the database, so we will need to come up with a way of keeping track of communications with holders or potential holders of data. Once there is data, we will need to figure out a search mechanism that will let us satisfy use cases that have yet to be completely identified.

• Help on other projects in our department as needed.

Salary Range:

Our pay structure is based on earned credit hours, classification, and degree level. Your pay rate will be determined during the hire process and included in your offer package. Qualifications We Require:

You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

• Currently attending and enrolled full time in a related accredited undergraduate program

• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0

• Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer

• Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship

Qualifications We Desire:

We are seeking an intern who has a:

• major in computer science or engineering

• is comfortable coding in at least one object-oriented language.

• a general understanding of a relational database and can write simple SQL queries

• demonstrated strength in interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.

  The student intern should ought to:

• have completed coursework equivalanet to a Junior year

• enjoy learning new computer languages and systems even if neither the languages nor the systems are on the cutting edge of technology

• enjoy solving problems as part of a team and be gracious in accepting the team's solution even if the student's unchosen solution was obviously the only solution that had merit

• find some sort of inexplicable satisfaction in rewriting code so that it is, in some amorphous way that will probably only ever be noticed by you, both more efficient and easier to understand

• be willing to do non-coding work like data entry and running test scripts while at the same time thinking of ways to improve the data entry and testing process.

• participate in department meetings and activities

• grow responsibility through time

• participate in other project tasks dependent on successful candidate qualifications and experience.

Security Clearance:
