Overview

Pay Range: $110,000 - $120,000/year

SCOPE:

Under supervision or in collaboration with radiation oncologists, involved in the care of individuals, families and patient groups who are dealing with cancer or benign diseases treated with radiation therapy. This care may be in clinic or virtually, via telemedicine. Responsibilities may include duties related to prevention, screening, patient care, management, and research. May serve as direct caregiver, health care consultant, patient educator, administrator, or researcher. Ensures compliance with OSHA and other regulatory standards and requirements. Supports and adheres to the NYOH Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.


Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Primary responsibility is to provide follow-up care for radiation oncology patients. This includes evaluation of cancer status and assessment and management of acute and late side effects of cancer.
  • Additional responsibilities include assisting in coordination of care for patients under treatment and management of acute therapy side effects, re-consultation for patients who have received prior radiation therapy for malignant disease, perform initial consultation for radiation therapy to treat benign conditions.
  • Ensures radiation departments' compliance with appropriate accreditation body standards. Ensures the accurate preparation and maintenance of radiation therapy records for all patient care.
  • Initiates and documents appropriate interventions; evaluates and records patient/family response and prescribes therapies as indicated.
  • Determine if a patient is an appropriate candidate for radiation therapy and discuss the benefits and side effects of treatment.
  • Effectively educates patients of all treatment options including the absence of radiation treatment.
  • Adhere to radiation safety standards and demonstrates the principles of ALARA.
  • Assesses patient/family needs and provides education.
  • Participates in clinical research relevant to radiation oncology population, specifically, works with the radiation oncology medical team and research associates to provide clinical care and follow-up assessments per the clinical research trials requirements.
  • Promotes wellness and recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs.
  • Consistently incorporates evidence-based research into clinical practice.
  • In-depth knowledge of reimbursement procedures and documentation requirements.
  • Completes patient charge capture and medical record documentation in a timely fashion.
  • Often provides case management for patients and their families.
  • Often serves as a resource for nursing staff by providing information being studied in clinical trials.
  • Provides palliative care for the patient and their families as needed.
  • Performs survivorship visits for the patient as needed.
  • Performs genetic risk assessment/counseling.
  • May serve in practice or network-wide APP leadership role.
  • May precept APP students
  • Mentors new advanced practice providers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

RN state licensure and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state. Current state licensure as a Nurse Practitioner. NYS prescriptive Authority.

  • Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
