This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at Campus and remote.

DESCRIPTION

The Department of Surgery is one of the largest departments in the School of Medicine and is comprised of 102 full time faculty members, 220 voluntary faculty members, 20 physicians employed on MSP agreements, 25 doctors employed by the VA or other facilities, 77 accredited and 13 non-accredited trainees and 100 career staff. Activities are organized in 13 sub-specialty divisions. Annual expenditures across the Department total over $66.5M with a global research portfolio of over $19M. The missions of research, education and patient care are intertwined, and are integral to the goals of the department.

The Research Assistant is involved in supporting health system and health services research centered around improving the quality of care for cancer patients locally and nationally.

The Research Assistant works closely with the Professor (PI) and other research team members on a wide range of project-related tasks, such as project management, project documentation, IRB application support, progress reports, administrative support, and internal and external communication, literature reviews, data collection, manuscript preparation, and/or report writing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Theoretical knowledge as required in a Bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, information system management, engineering, physical science, neuroscience, psychology, cognitive science or a combination of education and experience.

  • Demonstrated good judgement and decision making; problem-solving, identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance trough application configuration and programming techniques.

  • Demonstrated skill in accurate record-keeping and ability to organize, analyze, and complete project accurately, efficiently and with high level of attention to detail.

  • Ability to work in a team environment, establishing and maintaining good working relationships with P.I., supervisor, postdoctoral scholars, and other members of the research group Prioritize multiple research activities. Make judgments necessary to conduct the most relevant and up-to-date research possible once specific goals have been defined by Principal Investigator

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Skilled in proofreading and editing. Knowledge of proper grammar, spelling and punctuation. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Knowledge and ability to list quantitative measures that define the size and scope of the position (for example, the number of students counseled, the number of faculty and/or staff supported, the number of employees supervised, the number of events planned, the size of budget managed).

  • Knowledge and experience in biological sciences or related field.

  • Ability to learn new procedures and techniques and adapt standard methods to new situations. Flexibility to adapt to changing work conditions.

  • Ability to set goals and work independently to manage both short- and long-term responsibilities.

  • Excellent organizational skills with keen attention to detail.

  • Computer skills (word processing, data management, Power Point, reference manager).Proficiency with analytic software including but not limited to Excel.

  • Willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Preferred 1-2 years of research experience.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $55,374 - $66,064 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $26.52 - $31.64

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
