Position Overview
Primary Purpose of the Position |
The position is an academic rank of Tenure-Track Associate Professor/ Professor of Rehabilitation Counseling in the School of Health Sciences, with a start date of August 2025. The position is a full-time, 9-month faculty position at an open rank, with the potential for tenure at the Associate Professor or Professor level. This position is grounded in the university's commitment to innovation, collaboration, and preparing leaders for the future of rehabilitation counseling. The successful candidate will join a dynamic, motivated faculty dedicated to teaching, scholarship, and service excellence. Job responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, serving as faculty advisor, mentoring and coaching students inside and outside the classroom, producing scholarly research that results in publications in peer-reviewed journals within the discipline area or within peer-reviewed journals that promote the teaching and learning discipline; facilitating presentations at well-respected professional conferences; engaging in procurement of extramural funds with interdisciplinary teams; participating in departmental, School of Health Science, and university service as well as engaging in service to one's professional discipline and larger Winston-Salem and Forsyth County community. The selected candidate will focus on key areas, such as vocational assessment, clinical mental health counseling, and deafness while contributing to undergraduate and graduate education. Competencies and Requirements
Candidates must:
- Hold a doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Rehabilitation Counselor Education or a related field from a CACREP-accredited program.
- Be a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) or CRC-eligible.
- Have at least five years of teaching experience in rehabilitation counseling for Associate-level applicants (9 years for Professor-level applicants).
- Be eligible for LMHC-A or LMHC licensure in North Carolina within one year.
- Possess experience teaching core CACREP-accredited and specialized courses in rehabilitation counseling and rehabilitation studies.
- Have experience as a rehabilitation counselor or a closely related field.
- Demonstrate evidence of online teaching, use of LMS platforms like Canvas, and comfort with distance education methodologies.
- Provide clinical supervision to counseling trainees and demonstrate expertise in vocational evaluation.
- Show a history of working effectively with diverse populations.
Specific Job Duties
The successful candidate will teach graduate and undergraduate courses in rehabilitation counseling/studies either face-to-face or online and must communicate continuously with students as they monitor student progress for student success. The successful candidate must construct sufficiently detailed course syllabi before the first class, teach each class section, create and present relevant course activities, assess assignments by providing written feedback in a timely fashion, and evaluate student performance. The successful candidate must hold office hours each week, meet with the program coordinator regularly, and consistently attend departmental and
SOHS meetings. Additionally, the ideal candidate must produce scholarly research that results in publications in peer-reviewed journals within the discipline area or within peer-reviewed journals that promote the teaching and learning of the discipline, facilitate presentations at well-respected professional conferences, and engage in the procurement of extramural funds with interdisciplinary teams. |
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education |
Faculty in the Department of Rehabilitation Counseling prefer candidates who:
- Demonstrated leadership in professional organizations.
- Recognized as a scholar and educator in the rehabilitation counseling field.
- Experience with program or learning outcomes assessment.
- A record of service to higher education and the profession.
- Expertise in two or more areas: State-Federal Vocational Rehabilitation systems, private rehabilitation, rehabilitation administration, school-to-work transition, deafness, or clinical mental health.
