ASSIGNMENT DETAILS

UC San Diego is hiring a temporary Human Resources Generalist 2 to support the campus operations for 2025.

Duration: This role is anticipated to last 7 months.

Compensation: $36.28 - $42.00/hour. Eligible for paid holidays and vacation/sick leave. Full-medical insurance also available.

Work Schedule: Varies by location.

Location: Hybrid - 2 days / month on campus in La Jolla

DESCRIPTION

The HR Generalist 2 (Working Title: HR Analyst) is responsible for developing and administering the human resources and administrative infrastructure. Manage comprehensive human resources and payroll administration for 100+ staff including career and limited type appointments. This position manages the day-to-day operations and administration of human resource services related to: staffing & recruitment; employee/labor relations; compensation & classification; leaves/FMLA, RIT & phased retirement; personnel/payroll & benefits; worker's compensation; staff recognition & award programs; merit & wage implementations; development & training; human resource information systems; and record management.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations; demonstrates organizational skills and problem-solving skills.

  • Working knowledge of other areas of HR.

  • Experience managing a broad scope of complex personnel and related functions including recruitment selection, discipline, termination/layoff, collective bargaining agreements, employee relations, labor relations, performance appraisals, benefits administration, classification reviews, job description development, diversity, etc.

  • Knowledge of organizational policies and procedures and knowledge of functional area.

  • Demonstrated experience and success in interpreting, analyzing, advising on, and implementing policies, procedures, and regulations related to all facets of human resources administration.

  • Demonstrated ability to handle difficult or volatile situations / individuals effectively.

  • Strong portfolio of interpersonal skills with ability to interact with tact, diplomacy and sensitivity.

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and discretion in use and communication of information at all times.

  • Experience administering leaves of absence related to FMLA, CFRA, PDL.

  • Knowledge of issues and procedures related to disability, accommodation and worker's compensation.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

This position has been identified as a Mandated Reporter pursuant to the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) and requires immediate reporting of physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, or neglect of anyone under the age of 18. It is the responsibility of the Mandated Reporter to ensure that they obtain proper training in order to fulfill their reporting responsibilities as required by the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and University policy, and to complete and submit the required reports to the UC San Diego Police Department without delay.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $63,800 - $111,600 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $30.56 - $53.45

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
