Overview

Provides leadership and coordinates all access services functions (circulation, course reserves, interlibrary loan and stacks management) by planning, coordinating, developing, interpreting and implementing library-wide policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

Access Services
* Responsible for customer-focused functional management and leadership of access services
* Coordinate with the Director of Libraries to develop policies and procedures
* Ensure compliance with copyright laws
* Interpret policies and procedures for library users and provide negotiation and adjudication when required
* Assist patrons with self-service resources including but not limited to printing, copying, scanning, microfilm copying, and interlibrary loan requests
* Solve all complex problems that arise
* Create and monitor processes and workflow
* Train library staff, faculty and students in the use of new technology to access library resources (integrated library systems and interlibrary loan)
* Coordinate all aspects of circulation including service functions of the circulation desk
* Maintain and update patron records in the integrated library system
* Provide assistance and coordinate with access services librarians to develop policies
and procedures for course reserves
* Manage the physical collections of the library by executing stacks management processes, inventory control, and maintenance of the collections
* Coordinate maintenance and service of copiers, printers, and scanners

Interlibrary Loan
* Provide leadership and manage all aspects of interlibrary loan and document delivery processes
* Maintain and update borrower records in the ILLiad
* Correspond with libraries and vendors outside the University to facilitate interlibrary loan
* Supervise and monitor the borrowing of llbrary materials locally, nationally, and internationally through llliad, OCLC (Onllne Computer Library Center), e-mail and other
forms of communication
* Develop procedures to manage interlibrary loan workflow
* Understand and interpret copyright laws for libraries
* Ensure compliance with license agreements
* Manage the ILLiad database by updating, monitoring and customizing the interlibrary loan program
* Suggest improvements to the llliad database program to the interlibrary loan community
* Keep current and evaluate interlibrary loan systems and software for continuing service improvements
* Create and pay invoices for lost material

Serials
* Maintain, update, and process serials cataloging records in integrated library system
* Maintain, update and process medical library holdings in Decline (National Library of Medicine)
* Maintain, update and process serial LHR's (Local Holdings Records) holdings in OCLC (Online Computer Library Center) for print journals

Student Employees
* Recruit, hire, train, supervise and dismiss 30-40 student employees each semester for several areas of the Libraries
* Schedule all student employee hours for access services, interlibrary loan, serials and stack management
* Administer library student employee payroll and process timecards, utilizing the libraries' online student payroll program

Other
* Purchase office supplies and maintain inventory including computers, printers, copiers, keys, and other Equipment
* Provide research assistance through reference services during scheduled and unscheduled hours by answering questions in person, email, phone, and chat
* Manage funds, fees, deposits and other monetary related activities in access services
* Other duties and projects as assigned by the Director of Libraries.



Qualifications

Education:
Minimal Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in a library
Bachelor's Degree in related field
American Library Association (ALA) accredited MLS/MLIS or equivalent
Knowledge of copyright laws
Knowledge of OCLC (Online Computer Library Center)
Experience utilizing integrated library systems
Solid proficiency using llliad (interlibrary loan software)
Understanding of library databases and basic search skills
Ability to manage and train student work employees to successfully operate independently

Experience:

Preferred Experience:
Public services and interlibrary loan experience with demonstrated supervisory skills.
