Job Description:
The start date for this position is July 7, 2025. We will begin reviewing applications starting March 3, 2025.
The goal of this position is to provide support for the faculty, staff, and students engaging in Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) initiatives at Trinity University; this includes offering support for faculty across multiple sections of introductory STEM courses. This position is an in-person role with an anticipated 40 hours/week spent on campus at Trinity University. This position may be required to occasionally work outside of standard business hours, in the evenings or on weekends.
The workload for this position can be divided into: a) tasks to support HHMI initiatives at Trinity, which includes coordinating the Ambassadors for eXcellence in STEM (AXIS) program; and b) tasks to provide support for faculty who are teaching introductory STEM courses. This position may be required to occasionally work outside of standard business hours, in the evenings, or on weekends.
The contract for this position will run through the end of June 2025. Possibility of renewal for a second term is contingent on funding and subject to the approval of the HHMI Core Team.
JOB DUTIES: HHMI Initiatives (including AXIS Program): Works with the HHMI Core Team, faculty and staff leadership teams, the Ambassadors for eXcellence in STEM (AXIS) student program, and specific faculty and students engaging in HHMI initiatives. Tasks that may comprise this support include, but are not limited to:
The AXIS Program: Coordinates and manages student workers in the AXIS program. Supervises student employee hours, helps to design and independently facilitate weekly meetings with AXIS students, and works with AXIS students and faculty to promote and execute student-run projects. Curriculum and Faculty Development Programming: Works with the HHMI Core Team and curriculum and faculty development committees on events and programming. Organizes and handles logistical arrangements for events, develops and runs marketing campaigns, and purchases needed materials and supplies. HHMI Communications: Assists with various communication efforts related to HHMI initiatives. Updates Trinity's HHMI program Google site, prepares the on-campus bulletin boards, and assists with newsletters and reports. Additional Support Tasks: Assists in other new and ongoing HHMI initiatives, including assisting STEM departments working to transform introductory courses.
Supports Introductory STEM Courses: Supports faculty who are teaching introductory STEM courses. Works directly with faculty from several departments, especially Biology and Chemistry (and potentially Math, Computer Science, and/or others). Uses softwares such as Google quizzes, PollEverywhere, Gradescope, and the Canvas LMS. Tasks that may comprise this support include, but are not limited to:
Student Attendances and Absences: Helps faculty to maintain timely records for student attendance and work completion. Assignment and Assessment Grades: Helps faculty with specific grading logistics such as entering homework grades, managing make-up work, and assessing submission of assignments. Assignments and Assessments: Helps faculty prepare assessments for grading by alphabetizing student work, scanning online quizzes and exams, and returning copies of exams or assignments to students who missed class and need to pick them up separately.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
All jobs require a current Criminal Background Check (CBC). Willingness to travel on behalf of Trinity University. Occasionally, required to pick up or deliver information to an off-campus office. Overtime may be required during peak periods that include year-end and other special projects.
