Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Refrigeration Helper.

Under the direction of the Refrigeration Foreperson or Acting Foreperson, the Refrigeration Helper will be responsible for assisting in the maintenance operations and repair of refrigeration systems throughout the medical center following accepted procedures and techniques of the refrigeration trade as per the departmental guidelines.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the organizations Service Standards and incorporates them into the performance of duties.
  • Keeps the work area neat at all times. Follows safety procedures and requirements as requested by the Department and Institution. Sanitizes ice machines and cleans water filters as needed. Responsible for cleaning A/C units, change air and water filters, condensers as requested.
  • Protects public in working areas from bodily harm at all times. Protects equipment and tools from damage.
  • Transports materials, tools, and equipment to the work site as needed. Requests material, tools, and equipment as needed from foreman and stockroom.
  • Checks readiness of equipment for specialized work. Monitors and maintains inventory of refrigeration disposal, used/old refrigeration equipment, parts, filters, etc.
  • Assists mechanics with all repairs, testing, replacement, installation, and maintenance of refrigeration equipment, such as chillers (< 50 tons), refrigerators, environmental rooms (walk-in boxes), freezers, A/C units, ice machines and refrigeration related equipment.
  • Brazing, soldering, wire splicing, refrigerant evacuation/addition as required
  • Document work order, repair, maintenance, etc. activities as required
  • Ability to work independently as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3 years of experience working in Construction Real Estate Architectural Facilities or Health Services organization
  • Required to work in all areas of the facility where the refrigeration equipment is located as well as outdoors in all weather
  • Must have good written and verbal communication as well as interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience covering the full spectrum of refrigeration equipment at an academic medical center including the hospital environmental as well as educational and research facilities
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems

Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $79,690.89 - $79,690.89 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
