Job Overview

We are looking for a manufacturing engineer paint role to join an industry leader to be the subject matter expert on the Ludington Components powder coat paint line (wash line, dry off and cure ovens, paint application equipment, cooling equipment and rack design). This key role will drive continuous improvement using a data driven approach and lean manufacturing tools to reduce cost and improve quality and productivity from the finishing system. This role will also be relied on to conduct equipment health assessments and develop and execute long term financial plans for improvements to the system. The Haworth Ludington team is leading the corporation in North America in our safety, schedule and cost performance. This is a new role to the plant as we look to build on prior success and the successful candidate will have a hand is crafting what the role looks like.

Job Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot complex manufacturing issues in areas assigned and implement corrective actions to maintain quality and efficiency.
  • Conduct manufacturing tests and analyze results to ensure compliance with industry standards and customer requirements.
  • Analyze product and manufacturing designs to determine optimal solutions, considering cost, efficiency, and manufacturability.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices in manufacturing materials, equipment, and regulations.
  • Uses office automation, communication, software, and tools used in Haworth office environment.
  • Prepare engineering documentation, including Enterprise Change Management (ECMs), Request for Expenditures (RFEs), and cost analyses, to support project implementation.
  • Develop and implement manufacturing processes, including material selection, tooling design, and equipment specification.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product engineering, production, and suppliers, to ensure seamless manufacturing integration.
  • Performs other duties within scope as assigned.
  • Must be able to perform all essential job function with/without accommodation.
  • Ability to effectively use office automation, communication, software, and tools used in Haworth office environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing, Packaging or equivalent in relevant field of study
  • Education Equivalency: Associate's Degree plus 2 years additional manufacturing engineering paint application experience OR 4 additional years manufacturing engineering paint application supportexperience
  • Equivalent Military experience:https://www.mynextmove.org/vets/find/military
  • 2 years manufacturing engineeringexperience specifically providing paint application support
  • Possess the physical abilities to climb ladders, bend or stoop regularly, maintain balance on various surfaces, twist yourbody in tight spaces, reach overhead or extended distances, and safely lift up to 100 pounds on a regular basis (Accommodations might be possible)
  • Applicant must possess an unrestricted right to work in the US to be eligible for the position.
  • Ability to work and commute onsite daily to our plantin Ludington, MI without relocation assistance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with paint booths, hand spray techniques, conveyor powder coat, and wash systems
  • Experience within the Engineering, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing, or Packaging industries
  • Experience with lean manufacturing methods and tools such as Toyota Production System, 5S, Kaizen, etc.
  • Working knowledge of Computer Aided Design (CAD) software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc. Experience with mechanical drafting and design.
  • Experience designing and improving paint rack systems and processes.
  • Certifications in lean manufacturing/Six Sigma a plus.

Ideally you have also demonstrated the following

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with proven ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Strong problem solving skills and continuous improvement mindset. Passion for identifying and implementing efficiency improvements.
