KBAK/KBFX has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Investigative Reporter. In this role, you will be required to produce daily content on a variety of platforms including social media, along with performing other duties as assigned by the news managers. You will also anchor and produce a weekly "Eyewitness News Investigates" newscast. We are looking for someone with a clear understanding of how to dig for a story, research it, write it with an edge, and use strong storytelling and TV production to make it impactful and memorable. It is important to have strong writing skills and to have knowledge of current events.

The ideal candidate will have solid news judgment, be a compelling and accurate writer, and be able to multitask and manage their time in order to help contribute to an exciting and informative newscast. We are looking for someone with a clear understanding of how to dig for a story, research it, write it with an edge and use strong storytelling and TV production to make it powerful and memorable on multiple platforms. Knowledge of the FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) process, computer-assisted reporting, and data-driven reporting is required along with familiarity of legal issues related to investigative television news reporting. Strong writing skills and knowledge of current events is essential. Dynamic storytelling skills are a must.

Responsibilities:



  • Develop and maintain contacts and sources in the community to enterprise story ideas
  • Identify and pitch investigative angles on big daily news stories
  • Work closely with Producer and Executive Producer to refine investigative pitches and story scripts
  • Write online versions of investigative reports and produce digital specific content for each investigation
  • Produce and anchor weekly "Investigates" show


Skills and Experience:



  • A self-starter who can generate his or her own story ideas on a daily basis
  • Ability to demonstrate enterprise reporting and creativity in storytelling
  • Exemplary communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to maintain an active social media presence to build your brand and solicit original story ideas
  • Exceptional reporting, writing, and interviewing skills
  • Ability and willingness to use the latest technology and production techniques to shoot, write, edit, and publish content under deadline
  • Ability to uncover stories through investigation and research


Requirements and Qualifications:



  • Investigative producing experience preferred
  • 2 years of reporting experience required
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred
  • Must be a strong storyteller with the ability to make the complicated understandable
  • Must be able to use all available tools to enhance stories, from graphics to social media
  • Should be able to generate story ideas and determine the legitimacy of viewer tips
  • Strong writer, storyteller
  • Must be naturally inquisitive with an interest in holding government officials accountable
  • Previous experience working in a team environment is a must

The hourly compensation range for this role is $17.50 to $19.50. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidate's relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and geographic location. Full-time positions are eligible for benefits that include participation in a retirement plan, quarterly and annual incentive plan bonuses, life and disability insurance, health, dental and vision plans, flexible spending accounts, 15 paid vacation days, 2 paid personal days, 9 paid holidays, 40 hours of paid sick leave, parental leave, and employee stock purchase plan.
