The Space Warfighting Analysis Center/Spectrum Warfare Program (SWAC/SWP) at the Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is seeking a Multidisciplinary Systems Engineer to support their force design mission in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The selected applicant will need a strong analytical/technical background in government and commercial Space Data Network (SDN) architectures with understanding of data movement from warfighter to space, space to space, and space to ground enabling information mobility. This applicant will be responsible for participating in and leading segments of the day-to-day force design analysis for SDN comprised of user environment, various satellite communication architectures along with other forms of space data networks and grounding of space data via space-to- ground capabilities. The engineer will work as part of a larger team with customers, external partners and vendors, scientists, developers, engineers, managers, technicians, and support personnel. The ideal candidate will also have experience and be comfortable briefing a diverse community ranging from peers, commercial partners, general officers, and senior government leaders. Much of each day will be spent in spirited technical discussion. You will collaborate with a diversified group of UARC, FFRDC, and SETA contractors to provide timely analytics and cost-effective solutions to government customers. A strong technical foundation, combined with proven analytical and leadership expertise is required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Understands and addresses customer analytical needs and issues, usually by direct interface
- Develops and nourishes a strong partner relationship with the government designated Program Managers, customer program management and engineering leadership teams
- Leads complex system analytics by organizing and focusing the work of multiple engineers with diverse specialties on a common technical solution
- Briefs industry partners, senior leaders, and general officers with short notice and multiple times per year
- Works with the government designated Program Managers to ensure the technical team has clear deliverables with clear deadlines
- Keeps the team focused on the mission of delivering world class analytics
- Works with the government designated Program Managers to identify, track, and mitigate risks
- Partners with government designated Program Managers to negotiate and manages project parameters, including scope, approach, cost, and schedule, to ensure successful project execution
- Delivers high-quality analytics on schedule and within budget
Required Qualifications:
- MS in a degree field applicable to engineering systems, or a BS and extensive experience with government and commercial Space Data Network (SDN) architectures with understanding of data movement from warfighter to space, space to space, and space to ground entry points
- Ten or more years of technical analytics experience
- Ability to understand complex technical issues, translate them to workable tasks, and guide analytical discussions and decisions
- Experience managing complex analytics development with loosely defined requirements
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a complex environment with equal partners
- Proficiency in task management
- Ability to interact with, support, and provide analytic sound deliverable(s) to a geographically dispersed team that includes prime and subcontractor team members to achieve Division objectives
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment while making direct contributions to team success
- Proven track record of delivering high-impact, fast-paced projects on time, on budget, and to exacting standards, with a strong ability to thrive in dynamic and rapidly changing environments
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and hold an active Top-Secret Clearance
- Must be able to travel
Preferred Qualifications:
- Technical engineering or science degree
- 15+ years of analytical experience with government and commercial Space Data Network (SDN) architectures with understanding of data movement from warfighter to space, space to space, and space to ground entry points
- Experience with the with various satellite communication and space data relay architectures
- Experience with use or development of user environments interfacing with space systems for transport of data
- Experience with the enterprise ground architectures comprised of Ground Entry Points (GEP), teleport, gateways, or other forms of space data grounding
- Experience with DoD technical programs involving communications whose paths require transport via space resources
