Summary

The Business Paralegal Assistant provides support for all aspects of corporate matters managed by both Partners and Associates. Primary responsibilities lie in the areas of research, document handling, corporate records and management, and database management, including organizing materials for lawyers and clients related to client matters. This position reports to the Paralegal Manager, receiving day to day direction from attorneys and paralegals in the specific practice area.

Required Education & Experience



  • Completion of either of the following:

    • Bachelor's (a) Bachelor's degree or (b) Associate's degree and minimum of 1-year law firm experience in a Paralegal capacity, or 2 to 5 years of complex law-related experience under the supervision of an Attorney or Senior Paralegal;
    • AND, in addition to (b), completion of an educational program for Paralegals approved by the American Bar Association ("ABA") or offered by an accredited institution which follows ABA guidelines for Paralegal programs.




Preferred Education & Experience



  • Law Firm experience preferred.


Essential Functions

  • Paralegal Assistant (75%)

    • Communicate with attorneys working on a matter to provide all necessary information in a timely manner.
    • Prepare and file UCC financing statements following firm guidelines.
    • Conduct state document and lien searches and factual research.
    • Communicate with governmental agencies and state regulators related to annual filings and renewals.
    • Draft state regulatory applications, amendments and renewals. Communicate with clients to obtain information regarding various regulatory submissions.
    • Track of communications and responses from various regulatory agencies to ensure proper compliance.
    • Daily monitoring of state and federal proposed and enacted laws, regulations, major litigation, payment network rules and other industry developments.
    • Facilitate use of vendors and oversee payment of invoices for services provided.
    • Manage and organize documents, files, and databases associated with each matter assigned by primary attorney.
    • Provide attorney(s) and client(s) with information necessary for business process, decision making, and review in a timely manner.
    • Anticipate attorney and client needs related to matters under management.
    • Delegate effectively and as appropriate to Legal Administrative Assistants working on the matter.
    • Handle all communications, whether oral and written, in a prompt and professional manner ensuring that information is transferred in an accurate and thorough manner.
    • Act as a liaison among various internal departments as well as with outside agencies.
    • Meet billable hour requirement of 1250 per year.


  • General and Administrative (25%)

    • Time entry, scanning, emailing, etc.
    • Assist in Firm marketing for practice area.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. While performing the responsibilities of the position, these work environment characteristics are representative of the environment the person in this position will encounter. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work in a professional, fast paced office environment that may require additional hours to complete work.

The salary range for this role is $63,000 - $80,000. The salary range for this position is based on a variety of factors, including experience, skills, qualifications, and location. The range is provided as an initial
