Medium/Low Voltage Electrician - Backfill (P)

The Backfill Electrician will cover absences from the permanent site Electricians at two locations overseas. This is usually due to scheduled vacations but may include unscheduled events like illness or injury. This will be a minimum of eight 21 day trips a year, with 2 to 4 days of travel per trip. Candidates must be comfortable with international travel and lodging and have a valid passport. When the electrician is not at site, they will be paid for a regular 40 week at their home to be available for standby. Electricians will be offered additional work if it becomes available, usually in the El Paso area of Texas. Additional taskings are not common and are generally two weeks or less.

Electricians will be responsible for participating in the day-to-day operations of a mobile power plant and power distribution system. Required to make clear and concise logbook entries on a regular basis. The electrician may be responsible for drafting reports and memos for management. The electrician will be responsible for all installation, service, maintenance, repair, and operation of power distribution cable, wiring, and equipment and will assist with service, repair, and maintenance of the diesel engine driven generators in a remote location. The Electrician will be required to use analytical and critical thinking to solve simple to complex electrical problems using a variety of sophisticated testing equipment to provide seamless electrical service to the customer. Responsible to ensure all electrical work on site is done in compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and IEEE standards. Must be familiar with and execute best workplace safety practices in accordance with OSHA and NFPA standards. The Electrician will assist plant technicians in all maintenance activities to include maintenance on the fuel storage system as well as receiving fuel deliveries to the site and conducting quality tests on delivery truck and fuel before being dispensed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Work a 9 to 12-hour shift as dictated by Site Lead, to provide 24-hour support for the power plant.
  • The current work week is 43 hours. Monday through Friday.
  • Make logbook entries for all events during shift, use MS Excel and MS Word to draft various reports required in daily operation of site, which will be further defined by the requirements of the individual site and TDX site supervision.
  • Perform all troubleshooting, fault analysis, fault mitigation, and repair tasks, monitor power plant operation and taking readings every 2 hours. Safely operate power generation and distribution equipment within written guidelines.
  • Direct and conduct semi-annual maintenance on the electrical distribution equipment for both Medium and Low voltage equipment.
  • Work with minimal supervision or direction to solve problems with a variety of variables; troubleshoot and repair equipment malfunctions. Must exhibit critical thinking in troubleshooting and repairs, utilizing TDX Reach Back Support for technical assistance.
  • Record accurate readings of all instrumentation and various monitoring equipment detailing important data relevant to plants operation including kWH produced, fuel consumption, voltage, HZ.
  • Comply with all required environmental health and safety programs.
  • Be available as needed, to support operations issues that may arise, unless specific approval has been given by supervision to be out of range of the operations location.
  • Work extended work schedules as required supporting the project execution plans and schedules.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.



MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:



  • Must have a current valid state issued Electrical Journeyman's License (minimum requirement)
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures and general NFPA and OSHA safety standards for working around energized equipment and moving machinery.
  • Experience with the installation and repair of Medium and Low voltage power distribution systems and equipment to include but not limited to PDCs, PSCs, SDCs, 4160 switch gear, UPS systems, High Resistive Ground systems, ground fault monitors, and resistive load banks.
  • Familiarity with testing of various relays, transformers, and reactors.
  • Familiarity with Schweitzer relays, Startco modules, and Basler over current relays a plus.
  • Interpret and follow a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Broad knowledge in maintenance methods, practices, schedules, logistics, and budgets.
  • Ability to work extended work schedules as required supporting the project execution plans and schedules.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask, manage multiple projects, priorities, and relationships.
  • Must have a Department of Defense Secret level security clearance or be at interim level at a minimum.
  • Must be fluent and well versed with the interpretation of schematics, wiring diagrams, and one-line diagrams with the highest level of proficiency.
  • Familiarity with computerized diagnostic equipment and troubleshooting tools including but not limited to Dranetz power quality monitors, digital low resistance ohm meters, turns ratio testers, megohmmeters, and hi-pot testers.
