Brief Summary of Work for this Position |
The Medical Director is responsible for the planning, direction, and supervision of the medical staff and clinical care at
UNCW. The Medical Director will spend approximately 80% of their time on clinical duties including providing medical care to
UNCW students and functioning as supervising physician to the mid-level providers and the remaining 20% on administrative duties including serving as the lab director, assisting in the development of policies and procedures, and keeping abreast of current medical trends.
The Medical Director will be part of the senior leadership team for the Student Health Center. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
- MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school
- Current North Carolina medical license and board certification in family practice, internal medicine, emergency medicine, or related field
- Five years of experience practicing medicine including three years as a supervising physician

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience |
- Previous work experience providing medical care in a college/university setting is strongly preferred.
- Previous experience in sports medicine and/or working with athletes is preferred.

- North Carolina Medical License by employment date
- Board Certification in Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or related field
ACLS certification is required within 6 months of hire

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The mission of the Abrons Student Health Center (
SHC) is to provide student centered affordable, quality health and preventive services to the students of
UNCW. The
SHC provides comprehensive medical services, a retail pharmacy, health education, and intervention services. The
SHC staff work collaboratively to best help students stay healthy and make healthy decisions while at
UNCW.
As a part of the
SHC, the Hundley Health Education Center serves as the campus resource for information on a variety of health and wellness topics, including alcohol and other drugs, nutrition, sexual health, sleep, and stress. They provide services and educational programming to increase students' knowledge and commitment to personal health and well-being. The office also provides educational programs for the campus conduct system, and coordinates the collegiate recovery community. |
