The Retirement Plan Assistant will provide benefit and administrative support to the Retirement Plan Staff (Administrator and Coordinator), to include general clerical, receptionist and project based work; as well as provide backup coverage in the areas of benefit calculation, administration, and customer service.

Duties
-
- Main point of contact within the office, triages phone calls and requests submitted through the retirement planner website for staff. Forwards calls and emails to the appropriate Retirement Staff member.
- Assists with the day to day plan administration using the retirement planner website (MARC) which includes individual account creation and maintenance for covered employees, reconciliation of account and payment data, the ability to run and evaluate refund calculations, payment processing, as well as payment. Performs general accounting functions including reconciliation of accounts, and data entry.
- Maintainsand processesallnon-vested terminations, to include processing payroll,calculating refundablecontributions plus interest, contacting all terminated employees,ensuring correct PAF separation reason is marked for exiting employees,providing retirement packets, collecting completed packets, andcalculating taxes and final payment pursuant to completed paperwork. Obtain or sign with board member before submitting to bank to process payment.
- Serves as Corresponding Secretary for Retirement Board, prepares meeting minutes, obtains approval of invoices and sends approved invoices to custodian bank for payment.
- Provides clerical assistance including, but not limited to, typing, filing, scanning, preparing everyday correspondence, mail merge, and address maintenance.
- Organizes and maintains all files, to include promotional materials; will be responsible for creating all handout materials, packets and training supplies.
- Supports Retirement Plan Staff with the coordination, creation and distribution ofmaterials for monthly Retirement Board meetings; mayprepare summaries of investment performance and Retirement Plan expenditures; and posts agenda at appropriate sites in accordance with the Colorado Open Records Act.
- Assists with the annual Arapahoe County audit of the retirement plan.
- Performs basicpension benefitcalculations, analyzesand respondsto inquiries from active, deferred vested, disabled, retired members and beneficiaries relating to eligibility, benefit amounts and benefit options, with the assistance from the Retirement Plan Staff.
- Oversees projects to include; annual disability certification process, plan forfeiture process, management of the annual statements for deferred vested retirees and disabled deferred members.
Skills, Abilities and Competencies:
- Knowledgeable and proficient in Excel,PowerPoint, Publishing,Microsoft Word, and office e-mail systems is required.
- Strong numerical acuity; ability to recognize unusual and complex math outcomes, identify discrepancies, and problem solve as appropriate.
- General knowledgeable and understanding of Governmental processes and procedures is preferred.
- Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
- Must be able to establish and maintain excellent working relationships with both internal and external contacts.
- Should be a self-motivator and have the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.

Requirements

Education and Experience:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent and advanced coursework in business or accounting preferred.
- 3 years' experience in a clerical support role with exposure to retirement/pension/benefit plans preferred.
- Public sector experience preferred
- Any equivalent combination of education and work experience that satisfy the requirements of the job will be considered.

- Must successfully pass pre-employment testing which includes an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR) and background check.

- Work is generally confined to a standard office environment.
