Project Accounting Manager BB&E is a full service civil and environmental engineering and consulting firm, headquartered in Northville, Michigan, which services both the Federal and Industrial sectors throughout the United States. BB&E team members provide Environmental Consulting, Facilities Engineering and Program/Project Management Services to Federal and private sectors.
Position Summary
BB&E is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Project Accounting Manager to join our team, supporting our Accounting and Contracts Administration Department onsite at headquarters in Northville, MI. The Project Accounting Manager will report to the CFO.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Serve on the team as an Ajera expert and on-site point of contact for system functionalities, with an emphasis on project accounting and reporting.
- Support Project Managers on accounting-related project requirements, including but not limited to budgeting, reporting, and project status management.
- Provide accounting system training as necessary to enhance team capabilities.
- Supervise and develop a team of Program Analysts (2-3) responsible for project billing, expense report approvals, and project budget setup. Mentor team members to enhance their understanding of financial impacts. Crosstrain as a backup for client invoicing to support risk management.
- Ensure revenue recognition aligns with contract terms and reconcile variances as needed.
- Analyze Work in Progress (WIP) to confirm timely and accurate invoicing of projects within the appropriate reporting periods.
- Manage accounts receivable by coordinating with Department VPs and Program Managers to ensure timely collections.
- Oversee financial transactions related to BB&E Joint Ventures, ensuring prompt processing of invoices into government accounting systems and coordinating collection efforts with federal agencies as required.
- Assist the team with external financial statement reviews, company valuation, and budgeting.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and operational efficiency through enhanced use of the accounting system; update or create Standard Operating Procedures as needed.
- Recruit, develop, mentor, and provide guidance to Accounting staff, fostering professional growth and operational excellence.
- Support month end and year end processing in coordination with the Accounting Manager
- Prepare ad-hoc financial reports as requested by the Senior Management Team.
- Collaborate with the Accounting Manager to develop an electronic filing system to support access to historical corporate files.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Experience & Education
- Experience
- Project Accounting experience in the professional services field, such as engineering, consulting, or construction.
- Four (4) plus years of experience as an indirect or direct supervisor.
- Experience using project-based ERP systems including Ajera a plus.
- Understanding of Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) a plus.
- Experience in accounting software system design and implementation is preferred.
- Education: A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent is required.
