About the Job

The University of Minnesota Law Library seeks a focused, innovative, and motivated professional for the position of Electronic Resources and Acquisitions Librarian. This position reports to the Associate Director for Collection Development and plays a central role in the Library's efforts to build, maintain, and promote its collections. Professional librarians are hired under the University of Minnesota Academic Professional and Administrative (P&A) employee classification system which may lead to promotion and continuous appointment based on successful fulfillment of library duties, published scholarship, and professional participation.

Responsibilities

The Electronic Resources and Acquisitions Librarian is responsible for the acquisition of the Law Library's collections in both print and electronic formats, as well as the ongoing management of the electronic components of these collections.

Supervision (40%):

Duties include hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating the performance of the full-time acquisitions department staff and part-time student employees; holding regularly scheduled departmental staff meetings; developing, implementing, managing, and documenting policies and procedures to carry out acquisitions, serials, electronic resources, and bindery operations efficiently.

Other Acquisitions and Electronic Resources Management (30%):

Duties include identifying, evaluating, and staying current with emerging trends, resources, practices, and standards in legal acquisitions and electronic resources management; gathering, analyzing, and formatting usage data from the proxy server and vendor-supplied data for library reporting and decision-making; and coordinating access to analytics reports.

Vendor Liaising (15%):

The Electronic Resources and Acquisitions Librarian ensures positive working relationships with vendors and addresses vendor-related issues involving orders, receipts, and payments.

University and Professional Service (15%):

This position represents the Law Library on the campus, regional, and national levels, and engages in research, scholarship, and professional service activities.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Masters' degree from an American Library Association accredited library school or an advanced degree with relevant experience
  • Experience and proficiency using common office productivity and collaboration software, including Excel
  • Strong organizational skills, including time management skills, and effectiveness in balancing multiple assignments and projects
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility
  • Minimum of five years' experience managing the acquisition, licensing, and processing of legal materials in traditional and electronic formats
  • Minimum of three years' experience supervising full-time employees in an academic library

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of current and emerging trends and technologies in acquisitions and management of legal print and electronic collections
  • Experience with Gobi, OCLC, and ExLibris Alma, including Alma's acquisitions, electronic resource management, and analytics modules
  • Experience managing Database List entries on the Springshare LibGuides platform
  • Experience with original cataloging or copy cataloging legal materials
  • Experience with desktop publishing, including Microsoft Publisher or Canva
About the Department

The Law Library serves a diverse and varied group of internal and external constituencies, and the Electronic and Acquisitions Librarian must show proven ability to think analytically, have meticulous attention to detail, and communicate effectively both orally and in writing to internal and external audiences. This position requires the capacity to work independently as well as collaboratively, and requires a high degree of interpersonal skills and demonstrated strong user-service orientation. The aptitude to contribute actively to the law library profession through both scholarly productivity and participation in professional activities, will prove essential in this role.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $69,000 - $77,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 75%-100% Appointment
