Job Summary

The Coordinator II, TRIO STEM Program is responsible for the successful planning and implementation of TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) programs. In collaboration with relevant academic and support services units, this position provides expanded support designed to increase retention and graduation rates of students with an initial interest in STEM.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Assigned the lead role on academic, career, and personal advising to first-generation, low-income, and/or students with disabilities.
  • Utilizes a case management approach to track student progress, identify barriers to success, and provide targeted interventions through regular check-ins, referrals, and follow-ups.
  • Develops individualized success plans, monitor progress, and provide interventions as needed.
  • Conducts financial literacy counseling and helps students navigate financial aid and scholarship opportunities.
  • Supports the development, implementation, and assessment of student success initiatives aligned with TRIO SSS objectives.
  • Supports student workshops, events, and activities focused on academic success, leadership, and financial literacy.
  • Oversees the TRIO SSS tutoring program, including the hiring, training, and supervision of student tutors.
  • Maintains accurate student records, tracks engagement, and reports on program outcomes to ensure compliance with federal TRIO regulations.
  • Assists in the collection and analysis of data for Annual Performance Reports (APR) and institutional reporting.
  • Ensures adherence to federal, state, and institutional guidelines for TRIO SSS services.
  • Serves as a liaison between TRIO SSS and campus departments (advising, financial aid, career services, etc.).
  • Supports outreach and recruitment efforts to identify and enroll eligible students in the program.
  • Develops partnerships with faculty, staff, and community organizations to enhance student support services.
  • Stays current on best practices for student success, retention strategies, and federal TRIO policies.
  • Participates in professional development opportunities related to TRIO, academic advising, or student affairs.

Other Duties:

  • Other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Supports the administration of the annual budget in accordance with the U.S. Education Department General Administrative Regulations (EDGAR), Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and stat and University guidelines.
  • Serves on institutional committees representing the interests of the department.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:

  • This position requires either six years of directly related full-time experience or, as an alternative, a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a related field and two years of professional full-time experience related to the job functions.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree from an accredited institution in Student Affairs, Higher Education, or closely related field.
  • Experience in advising, academic support services, program planning, or counseling.
  • Experience as a service provider with various student populations, students with disabilities, TRIO programs, academic support services, or similar projects.
  • Bilingual skills (Spanish).

  • Knowledge of policies, procedures, and regulations pertaining to the position.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Skill in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects within deadlines.
  • Skill in public speaking and delivering presentations to individuals and groups.
  • Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies and procedures consistently.
  • Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to provide professional customer service.
  • Ability to effectively manage the work of others by providing information, guidance, and motivation.
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with staff, faculty, students, and the community in a service-oriented environment.

Pay Grade 15

This is a grant funded position with anticipated refunding. Although renewal of grant is expected, position is contingent upon renewal of grant.
