Primary Purpose and Essential Functions
The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of the Pacific invites applications for a two-year, full-time 9-month Instructor position starting July 1, 2025. Non-tenure-track faculty members collaborate in fulfilling the University's mission to provide a superior, student-centered learning experience integrating liberal arts and professional education and preparing individuals for lasting achievement and responsible leadership in their careers and communities. University of the Pacific is located in Stockton, California, named as the most racially and ethnically diverse big city in the United States in a 2020 US News & World Special Report.

Essential Functions: Non-tenure track faculty members engage primarily in teaching. Teaching responsibilities may include General Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, and potentially Microbiology depending on the candidate's expertise. Teaching responsibilities will be 6 courses over 2 semesters. Research is not an expectation of this position. However, shared space and resources could be provided to allow applicants to maintain research projects and engage undergraduate research students if desired. Area of specialization is open.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree in biology, or a closely related field.
  • One (1) year educational or professional experience in the area of instructional responsibility.



Preferred Qualifications

  • Postdoctoral experience.
  • Experience as primary instructor of record for a previous course.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.


Physical Requirements
The physical demands described here are representative but not definitive of those that must be met by an employee. Job requires extended periods of sitting and repetitive hand/wrist motion while using computer keyboard; job often requires standing during lecture periods, when teaching in lab or during research; occasional walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping and reaching. Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Work is performed during standard hours; Additional hours may be required to meet business needs or deadlines.
Hiring Range $68,640 (We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as organizational considerations when extending an offer.)
