Gundersen Health System, based in La Crosse, Wisconsin, is seeking a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation team of 8 physiatrists, 7 advanced practice clinicians and 3 chiropractors.

The position is a hospital-based position supporting our 20 bed CARF accredited Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit. The rehab unit is accredited to treat patients 15 years and older and does not encompass pediatric population. This position offers great work-life balance with a 7 day on, 7 day off schedule with holiday coverage shared by members of the inpatient medical team (4 attending MDs and 4 APCs). The hours are generally from 7:30 a.m. to about 4:00 p.m. Night call is from home and is shared by the inpatient medical providers. Typical patients cared for include those who have had strokes, brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, amputations, and major orthopedic injuries. The position includes helping with consults, admissions, daily progress notes, discharges, and medical management. Common medical issues managed include hypertension, diabetes, depression, sleep, pain, spasticity, neurogenic bowel and bladder, and cognitive dysfunction. This position frequently collaborates and communicates with a multidisciplinary care team.

The PM&R Department is an integral specialty housed within our comprehensive Neuroscience Center, which includes the services of Neurology, Neurosurgery, Pain Medicine, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Neuropsychology, and Sleep Medicine.
