The Department of Neuroscience at West Virginia University Research Corporation is currently accepting applications for a Laboratory Technician with the Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute

About the Opportunity

We are seeking to hire a laboratory technician to assist with experiments (mostly mouse behavioral tests, but also brain tissue analyses and cell-based assays), mouse colony management, and general laboratory management/organization.

What You'll Do



  • Work with the PI to plan, prepare, and conduct experiments.
  • Help organize and analyze data
  • Participate in mouse colony organization and maintenance (e.g., checking daily for pregnancies among breeding groups, weaning litters, obtaining ear biopsies for PCR-based genotyping).
  • Assist with general laboratory upkeep (e.g., monitoring supplies and placing orders) as required
  • Assist with the PI with regulatory requirements associated with (IACUC, OLAR, EHS, RSD).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in neuroscience, psychology, biochemistry, biology, or related field.
  • A minimum of 0-6 month of previous experience in the following:

    • Mouse behavioral assessments and general laboratory operations.


  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities



  • Ability to handle live mice in experimental settings
  • Attention to detail and ability to attend to, comprehend, and follow verbal instructions and written or published protocols
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills for communicating effectively and promptly with PI and other lab personnel

Requirements

  • This position may require Medical Monitoring, including periodic health monitoring and/or training.

The WVURC was created as a not-for-profit corporation in 1985 to support research (R1) at West Virginia University. We provide evaluation, development, patenting, management, and marketing services for inventions of the faculty, staff and students of the University.
